Got my G Dyno-tuned at Stillen

Took my 2004 G35 for a much needed dyno tune at Stillen. It was an Osiris tune.

Some might remember I had to get a new engine a couple years ago. It was installed when I had approximately 85K miles on the chassis. I now have almost 119K miles on the chassis.

I ran the new engine approximately 25K miles with the following mods:

Fully blueprinted and balanced motor, ported and polished, ACL race bearings
DC Sport Ceramic Headers
Motordyne 5/16 Plenum Spacer
Injen Cold Air Intake
Stillen Lightweight Underdrive Pulley Set
Stillen Lightweight Flywheel
(Stock Cats and Stock Exhaust)

Then, I put on the following and ran that for about 6-7K miles:

Nismo 350Z Exhaust Mid Pipe and Mufflers (tips modified for proper fitment)
Motordyne Resonated "XYZ" Y-Pipe
(Stock Cats still)

Then, a few thousand miles ago I put on:

Motordyne MREV2

I had read that the MREV2 causes the engine to run much leaner, so I knew it was crucial to get a tune ASAP. I had always planned to get a tune as soon as I was done with my mods.

Here's a photo of her on the dyno before the first pull.

Did a few baseline pulls and ended up at 262whp but the AFR was lean as expected at 14:1.

Correcting the AFR to about 12.9:1 alone yielded a bump to 266whp.

Finally settled in at 270whp, but also saw gains of 12hp/11tq in the mid range. The initial and final runs are in the graph below for comparison.

Important notes: I was not looking for a super aggressive tune and was pleased enough to just have my AFR set to a safe level. I drive the car hard so I wanted a more conservative tune.

Runs were done in 3rd gear (NOT 5th!) and were also on a 90*F day with ~30% humidity

The car drives MUCH smoother now and pulls with noticeably more authority above 5000RPM. Definitely money well spent, in my opinion.

And, finally, a video of the baseline dyno (didn't bother taking more than 1 video since they would all be the same):

ART pipes or LTH's could have benefited you instead of the MREV2. Any reason for not going that direction? Nice to see some gains! Well done. How much was the tune at Stillen? Just curious to see what thier prices are compared to Church and if Stillen can yeild the same results as Church.

My car is CARB legal as it sits (or appears to be, because of the stealthiness of the plenum spacer). Everything else is internal and looks no different from stock.

So I just left the stock cats in for convenience of being able to pull up to a smog center, pass, and drive off without touching my car whatsoever.

The tune out the door was $547. I had never heard of church and go to Stillen for all my stuff...I have a motor from Stillen - seemed only logical to get a tune from Stillen (if something goes wrong I can point fingers at them and they can't point fingers at someone else).

I thought 4th gear was the 1:1 ratio gear for a 6MT

1:1 is 5th. I wasn't looking for glory numbers so 3rd was fine.

If they entered the final drive based on 1:1 (3.538) instead of 1.624:1 (5.74) you have "glory numbers"

The final drive entered was correct. I was watching the pulls on the computer. Speed was correct.

You do realize they could just have a high reading dyno...I know for a fact the Stillen dyno reads low.

I've seen cars that should have put out decent numbers just get murdered on that dyno.

Either way, comparing two dyno graphs from two different dynos, let alone different kinds of dynos, is pointless. With the variance between dynos in addition to run conditions, which our church automotive fanboi failed to post above, we have no idea who actually had a stronger dyno. He didn't even say what year his car was, auto or manual, etc. I could come in and say "well my car put down 430whp totally NA" and be talking about my M5...
