if its BBQ, the location is a no-brainer imo! KC it is. The others choices are just wrong for bbq (no matter how delusional they are).

First problem is a location. But it could be solved.
Second problem is $$$$$$$$. It also could be solved and solve the first problem.


Here is what I think.

If we are to do it seriously we need to pick a locations where we have a good amount of members living there that could help with event organization.

Second.........Since we are quite some time away from summer and possible event we could start the donations. Open a paypal acc and have one of the moderators collect the money. With that we will be able to have some decent gifts/prices for the competitions during event.

We got over 80k members on this forum. If we promote this I can see at least half or even a quarter of them donating a $1 making it enough $ not only for prices, T-shirts but to even cover hotel bills for some members and even Gas. With that I think we can solve the location problem. If we got enough funds to cover gas up to certain amount we can make this meet to be more lucrative for members from canada and other far regions. I know I know, it's not a problem for most of the members but still, would you rather drive 1+k miles and pay for the gas or have someone else pay for it.

If we end up collecting the donations and in the end not go through with the meet we can just donate that $ for a good cause and be done with it.


SO.............to start we need moderators and site owners to take over and get this going to make it more credible and serious.

We have allot of good talent on this forum that can help organize and promote this event.

is there any way for the moderators or site members to see a tally of what state everyone is from? this might give us an idea where we could stage the meet towards the center of the U.S. (specifically which state) and if more people are from the cali area, then have the spot shift west a little, but either way we need to see where everyone is from (by such a tally) and pick an area where we could hold such an event of size and have people from the area to hook it up. I think that once the area is solid, then people will get more serious as to if they will actually be able to make it, because as it stands right now, everything is still pretty much in the air.

 

I do live in FL. But some of the most active people on the board are from Cali.

 

what do you think about creating sub locations. Members could meet and drive to the final location together. Some of the longest trips can have several sub meeting locations. Sit for one hour, have something to eat, rest then start driving again giving new members time to join the convoy. just an idea to throw up in the air
