Flaws in Compact Flash Interface?
Flaws in Compact Flash Interface?
Hello,
Just got my new G35x and love it. A big step up in performance from my 2004 Acura TL. I love the radio but have a few pet peeves. First the 9.3 GB Music Box is worthless to me since I've long since ripped my CD's to MP3 and now cannot get those MP3's into the music box. Why is it a rip-input only. Seems you should be able to dump the MP3's right into it. Shame.
Also the Compact Flash music interface is somewhat flawed. I bought a few 2gb flash cards (newegg.com cheap $17 each) where I store music. When a song is playing and you go to browse for another one it immediately stops playing the song and switches to each song you browse through. Wouldn't it be better if you could flip around through the song list and then hit enter to switch to that song.
Also if someone calls you, it keeps playing the song. Shouldn't it pause it.
And the strict maximum amount of 255 songs per CF card is silly - doesn't that seem a bit low.
Otherwise great car.
If they ever update the software to address these issues do you think we could get a firmware upgrade?

Josh, welcome to the forum.
It does kinda bite that you can't rip MP3s to the MB, however this is a restriction put it place likely due to copywrite issues.
The CF does start playing the song that you browse to. I've just gotten used to it.
When someone calls you on your BT enabled phone, the system automatically mutes the music while you are on the phone and automatically starts playing it again when you hang up.
The CF card has a maximum of 512 files, not 255.

We all feel your pain bro... I wish I could either rip MP3 cds to the hard drive or just copy them straight from the CF card. Ohhhh well. I dont use the jukebox too much for these reasons. I hate that you cannot browse through the songs too, that pisses me off. You should def have to hit 'OK' before it starts playing the selected song!
Ouch! I know this really sucks & I have not even taken delivery yet. 70% of 2007 model year vehicles are ipod compatible, not the "G" however. The weakness of the music box and the inability for an ipod interface seems absurd. Unfortunately makes me question my choice in cars. Rumor has it that the new coupe will have some changes to the music box. If it is true I hope there will be an update for the sedan.
Yes you can play the ipod through the a/v inputs. Though it is the most archaic way possible. To access play lists or any ipod functions you must open the console, find the ipod & adjust from the ipod then put it back in the console. A far cry from an interface.
Almost all cars with ipod interfaces don't interface with the menus on the ipod. I ordered the Xtrememac Roadshow which will allow me to keep the ipod charged and give me RCA output from the dock port line level which is accoustically superior to any RCA output from the headphone jack.
