Does Your Adaptive Cruse Laser Actuate Radar Detector?

A commentary in the December issue of Car & Driver indicates the laser range-finder proximity detector used as part of the Infiniti adaptive cruise and to pre-charge the braking system, generates a beam of the same frequency as LEO laser speed guns. And that it will set off laser fuzz-busters not only on on-coming vehicles, but also within the Infiniti from which it originates due to the laser bouncing back from reflective signs & etc.

I don't have a laser radar detector in my G, but was thinking about getting one & I'm wondering if others have noticed this effect?

Hang on there, LF. I thought ALL fuzz-busters were illegal anywhere in the State of VA?

You're not a malefactor, are you?

Yes, there have been threads on this subject. The ICC can definitely set off Laser false alarms.

No laser falses in my G35 with a Passport 9500i although I have had problems with the laser being set off by the Nav screen if I mount the detector under the mirror. Turn the Nav screen off it goes away, wonder if there is "assumption" going on with the ICC??

Just like speeding, it's all about whether you get caught or not.

That's why you get a radar detector that's a radar detector detector detector...

An STi for example will shut off after it senses a radar detector detector... so that way it alerts you and The Man doesn't know that you have it.

Well, I'll be a Monkey's Uncle! Guess I need to get out more.

I had no idea there were radar detector detectors (sneaky cops!). Let alone radar detector detector detectors!

Thanks for info!

Its a lie, cops cant tell if you have a radar detector unless you have a 20 dollar one from walmart. If you have an 8500 or better the cops cannot tell. I cant cite my source for this but i asked a cop and that was his answer. With the laser being set off from the cruise control. I dont think thats what it is, i have friends with chevy trucks and when they honk their horn, the laser goes off. In my G if i aim the 8500 at the nav screen it will 8/10 times trigger the laser. I have also go behind friends who have radar detecotors, turned on my adaptive cruise control and they dont even get any form of warning. I just think its mixed electrical signals in the car. just my opinion

Dude, if you don't know what you're talking about, please don't spread mis-information.

VA cops use Spectre and VG radar detectors that can find YOUR radar detector.

The only good thing about the Spectre IIs is that some of them leak either Ku or X, and some companies (like Bell) actually make detectors (like the STi) that detect this, and shut off when they do.

Truckers (and speeders in VA) love them.

I have a valentine 1 and it depends on the angle and the car in front of you, it happens sometimes not all the time.. and yes the LCD screen will set off the radar.

i do not think it is only the ICC emitter. I do not have those on my car, (no tech package) and the laser on my 8500xi would go off randomly. I turned it off, the laser detecting function that is. Has been fine ever since, and no I am not worried about getting lasered, the cops around here (houston area) rarely use them if at all. mainly get the laser alarm when I am near airports.

I have an Escort 8500 X50 and it occasionally goes off randomly. The cops around here also LOVE to use the Laser guns, lazy ****** just sit on the side of the road picking off cars. Wish they'd get off their lazy a$$es and help people instead of being jerks and giving everyone tickets and leaching funds off of hard working people.

I have V1 and it goes off when i see FX and QX.. Probably only ones with ICC.. But yeah.. It sets off the laser in my opinion.. I don't think it will set off from your own ICC though..
