Rear Audio Lower Than Front?

Hey, is it just my car or does it seem like the front speakers are louder than the rear? I feel as if I can barely hear the rear in relation to the front speakers. A friend that was sitting in the rear while I was driving asked if I had the rear speakers turned down however in the front I could barely hear the front passenger speak over the music. I searched for threads on this and found nothing. Anyone else notice this?

This is normal.. THis is to make the sound stage to the front as opposed to the rear.

The radio may be set to enhance the driver's listening position. Easy to change.

Have you attempted to adjust the fade control on the head unit?

I used the fade to put all the audio to the rear and the sound doesn't sound as good as in the front (ie I can barely hear the sub that sits on the rear deck). Minor nit picking, just making sure my stereo is working as it is supposed to.

Yep, its normal, mine works as you've described as well. I do agree with you that the sound coming from the rear is on the weak side, especially the sub. Sounds puny.

Exactly! I got out of the car, got in the back seat, and had to put my hand on the sub to make sure it was on! The front sub kicks but the rear sub is lacking. WTF!?

Anyone know if the rear sub is the same size etc as the rear?

Well, technically most of your sound is supposed to come from the front. The rear speakers are supposed to act as fillers. Thats why you have a 3 piece component set in the front and just 2 speakers with a sub in the back. As for the rear deck sub its a free air subwoofer not intended to really shake up the car or anything like that. IF you want some real bass then you need to go with an enclousre in the trunk.

The articles about the studio on wheels brag about this. Sound is supposed to come from the front. Your ears are even designed this way.

Traditionally, car stereos are backwards in this aspect.

Even my base stereo in the G35 has most of the sound up front. (until I added a 10" sub). But sub placement doesn't matter since bass isn't directional. Which is why you can't really tell what direction the kids are coming from with the boom boom in their cars.

Yep, 3 10" inch drivers, including one under the hat rack. I have to see about replacing them.

Adjustments to Studio On Wheels

Try fading back 1 click and boosting the bass tone control 1 or 2 clicks.
That'll give you more of a traditional sound.
