Hi:

I have an 07S Prem. Pkg. NO nav. My dealer is going to replace the radio control unit under warranty beacuse it keeps making some wierd noise. I'm going to take the oppoetunity and try to retrofit 08's ipod integration into my 07.

Couple of questions first.
Is the Radio Control unit in my 07 the same as an 08?
Is there an independent Ipod control module or is the controller part of the head unit.
Besides the ipod conector in the center console and the inner liner in the center console what othre parts will be needed (if any)?
Is there a cable that runs from the center console to the Head unit?
Can someone post a pic of a non nav 08 center screen?

I'm going tomorrow to my dealers parts department to check all the parts. As soon as i have info I'll post it.

Any help provided will be greatly apprecieated.

Take a look at the G35 Sedan 2007 and compare to the G37 Coupe 2008.

You should be able to isloate from there.

Works awesome i tell you. Dont see the point of going through the hassle of replacing everything to itegrate the ipod. Best part is, you dont lose the Ipod interface, its much faster, and you get video output.

 

I went to the dealer and talk to the parts guys to check the difference between the 07's and 08's. To my surprise they couldn't tell me beacuse they don't have the sound system info in their computers. so I tlked to my service advisor and she was going to try to help me. I'll call her today to see if she have son info.

Ipod Module for '08 is mounted to the rear of the NAV unit behind the dash. Connecting it "should" work however it did NOT for me. On closer inspection Ie. open both nav units internals are identical however the '08 has different firmware (instruction file on how to operate the hardware) no idea on how to update the '07. As these units are remove & replace by the dealer, they don't have this type of update..

 

Maybe getting a 2008 harddrive image is the key. It'd be interesting to try to use linux to dd a 2008 drive to a 2007 drive.

 

I'd be interested in getting linux to run from the harddrive to control everything.
