Interesting...

Did you take yours out or get one off a parts car? What is the plan? Are you looking at some sort of different option in there?

I have an 07 G35... Want to upgrade the drive.. It's actually a Toshiba, always thought it was a Seagate drive... It's barred DEEP with in the guts of the CD/Bose/sat tuner in the dash. You have to COMPLETELY DISSEMBLE that unit to get at it, I counted 45 screws!!! Few different kinds. I re assembled the unit with out the drive cause I want to image it. FYI car does not like to work with out the HDD, gives me a system failure see dealer?? lol

EDIT: If i remember, the unit was made by xanavi or something like that..

what are you looking to do? Get a larger extreme condition hard drive copy the contents over, find the audio file format add all your tracks.

I wonder if that would work, and with that in mind if you could mix and match some of the 07 08 features. Get all the voice commands but find the ipod software and add it to the 07 set. then buy the ipod cable and bam! just like new.

keep us posted!

What I would want to do is to try and mount up the HDD with a multi-format friendly O/S (Linux) and see if I can't uncover a way to transfer mp3s to the damn thing directly. I'd like to see if it would play 224kb MP3s from the HDD, etc. Plus going for large capacity to move most of my collection would be bonus cookies...

More info on the HDD please. What connector (EISA, SATA, SCSI)? Were you able to put the image onto another HDD and get at the contents?

This may sound crazy, but wouldn't it be easier and less messy to just use an iPod and be able to do what you are trying to get done: easily add/remove songs, use the bit rate you want per song, have transportable music and video, and have easy access when playing songs?

Depending on the amount of music..the CF card reader is a good way, can use a SD to CF card which makes it easier..coz u can have mutiple small lil SD cards and slot them into a CF card adapter. But i think you can prob only go up to like 4gb? N u can get SD cards for cheap as well as the adapter.

I dont listen to alot of music so these methods suffice.

Interesting, it was always reported that the Seagate EE25 Series hard drives were being used. Guess not.

long shot I know but it would be great if we could fashion up a usb connection to splice into the drive's connection. like in external enclosures. then just have the usb cord run into the console or glove compartment. plug it into your laptop and add music at your will. Never have to open up the console again. man that would be cool....
