Confused about Navigation data update?

I bought my G35 Journey in April and an update for the navigation system was due out in May, but was pushed back. I'm now reading on these forums that there's an update, by Navteq, but can't seem to find out anything about it. When I go to the Navteq site it doesn't show anything for the G35. Would someone please advise if there is indeed an update for the factory installed nav unit, and if so, specifics would be appreciated. As it stands right now the data in the current nav data base is close to being useless! Thanks.

Thumbs down

I just got off the phone with NavTech and was givin their number 1-866-462-8837 from my Infiniti dealer. They said if you have a 07 sedan or newer it is only updated by a hard drive update which they have not developed yet.

They said once it is done you will be purchase a coupon code and then have to take this code to your dealer. He will then have a computer hook up to your vehicle and enter your coupon and a hard drive update will be installed. They assured me the dealer will also charge you a service fee for that as well on top of the coupon purchase.

She said 07 and newer sedans are hard drive. The 07 coupe is still on DVD but not the sedans.

Thanks G Calgary. Did they give any indication as to when the hard drive update might be "developed" ?

I spoke with Navteq last Friday and they felt the update would come in Feb/Mar, but they also said they get no advance notice of the update timing, so Feb/Mar is probably just a guess ??? Sounds like Navteq is just the distributer, and not the developer.

OK so i see that the UPDATE is out for our HDD nav equipped cars as of january 2009.

Im interested in getting this but have one question for someone with an 07 who got this update:
Will this update disable most of the voice command functions like the 2008 comes from the factory with limited voice command options? or will it just update the navi part of it and NOT mess with the voice commands at all?

Interested if it wont hamper my voice commands that i use a lot!
Thanks

I received the same post card. I haven't been following the NAV update threads so I'm not familiar with the update process....is it a DVD based upgrade?

no, the post card said u have to pay the BIG BUX to get a code and go to the stealership for the upgrade. I think our navi uses the Harddrive for updates... Im just not shure if i want to spend that much.. Although there are some places where my navi don't catch..

I got the postcard too- this upgrade should be covered under the warranty agreement at no extra cost IMO

In that case dealers should replace cars under warranty when new models come out.
