hardwiring a portable navigation?

Hello all,

I was wondering how I could hardwire a portable navigation maybe to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard. Is it possible to tap into one of the power wires somewhere here? I dont want to spend hundreds trying to get the oem look on the center consol screen and I have a small tom tom from a previous car which is powered by the 12volt car adapter.

any ideas on how to get this power? thanks

well, i'im not so sure about newer models, but you can always tap into the BCM harness at the left of the driver footwell. You gotta search as to which one is the cigarette lighter though.

it all depends on how stealth you want the setup to be. it's easy to tap onto the wires behind the cigarette lighter if you pull the shifter section out of the console. if your intention is to leave it to the left of the steering wheel you could easily tap into the cigarette lighter and run some wires under the dash and up out of the a-pillar right to the navigation unit. it would take you 15 minutes to do. if you just want to run the wires over the top of the dash then thats different...

are you familiar with removing the center console? if not find the DIY here on the forum. if you want to use the stock cord you can cut the cigarette lighter adapter off of it and then strip back the red and black power wires inside. you will end up connecting those to the cigarette lighter power.

i can post more about what to do but if you're already familiar with this stuff i don't want to rehash it.

davidxu - the BCM model in the 07+ models is in the passenger footwell. booooooooo lol. makes things tougher to mod in my opinion.
