AMP Advice

I am new to the G35 world and love my "new" car, a 2008 G35x. I have a older Rockford Fosgate Power HX2 but dont know where my amp ran off too. I had a 1001bd. Anyway, I dont want to spend $400 on another amp. Is there any recommendations? How difficult is it to install a sub through the nav unit?

well if you want to put in a new sub it's not that tough, although to be fair the stock amp won't drive your RF sub as hard as you're probably hoping it will.

there are alot of threads here for installing Line Out Converters and running wires (and plenty on replacing the stock sub with an aftermarket one) so take a look around and let us know if what you find doesn't help you. in reality you'll want a better amp, even a cheap one might do (check craigslist or ebay). i like alpine personally but there are so many good ones out there now. or spend $200 on a bazooka tube if you want to save space.

I was planning on buying an amp, RF 1051s or R1000-1D. I wasn't sure which direction to go with power output and dont know much about channels, ohms, ect... Im not wiring smart at all so I was planning on taking it to a stereo shop here in birmingham to get it done. Im a finance manager, not a car tech so I was looking for some wisdom.

ah i gotcha. well if you're going with a single sub you just need a mono amp (channels don't so much matter). for ohms it really isn't an option unless you're changing your sub up. you will need to see if your sub voice coil is a 2ohm or 4ohm coil (it's likely 4ohm).

personally, as i said, i like alpine. they have some small mono amps you can grab for cheap on sale at best buy.

kenwood makes good stuff too. its really just personal preference or price in the end. i would recommend maybe finding a car audio store where you can listen to different subs though, that may be beneficial for you to make a decision.

That kenwood amp is mediocre quality, and it still costs a lot. You'd be better off with almost any other brand. I used to be a professional installer and I've had almost every brand of amps in my vehicles at on time or another.
