did you have to take off your glove compartment to access the wire when fed through the rubber grommet in the engine bay?

any advice? I need to route my 4 gauge wire and have no idea how to get it into the car from the engine bay thanks

 

no need to remove the glove box. just remove the plastic panel under the glove box and you can pull the wire right down.

 

Yea just remove the side plasitc kick pannel and look underneath the glove box where the pannel was and it should b sticking through the grommet, then just pop off the pannel from the door on the floor, and your gonna need to take your seat out (aka unbolting it, freakin pain in the A**) and then the trunk liner. then your should be good

 

the back seat?? Ahh it doesn't just pop up? Is it pretty straight forward? What ground did you guys use in the trunk? Any good bolts or what thankss

 

yea it doesn't just pop up, I actually took pictures when i did mine ill post them up in a little so its kinda like a DIY manual. Its not that bad its just a b**** trying to get the seat back in the right place and make sure its not torquing on anything along with not puncturing the leather. I bolted right above the trunk liner, i think right on to an existing bolt that was there for an amp harness for the bose. Its been working great for a year now!

What are you thinking about putting in the trunk?

^ which year G do you have? cause on the 2nd gen G's the rear seats are SUPER easy to remove. Lower cushion is just two latches and the back support is just a couple of colts on the bottom and then pull it up out of the holders. But for the wire just removing the lower cushion should do it.

 

I have 2nd gen. And i now its super easy to remove, but getting the seat back reattached its the annoying part. You are gonna have to if u wanna rout your wire above the trunk liner. I decided to hide my amp above the trunk liner I have a Massive Audio N3 so it hide in there pretty easily. But getting the seats back on....ughh it either would miss a clip or be torquing weird on the seat. But all in all its not that bad just a little time consuming. NOT nearly as bad as my 91 LS400 ughh hahah still miss that car though

 

technically you dont have to remove the seats to route it but removing the seats in the end will be cleaner. if you check out my thread on installing a backup camera you can see where i talk about the porthole behind the rear passenger seat belts, you can stick your hand in there and route the wires to the trunk. this is what i did with my camera wires and my amp wires. just be care sticking your hand in there so you don't jam it in fast and scrape yourself.

the seats are fairly easy to remove also. as for a ground i would say to either use the mounting screws on the XM receiver or i think what i ended up using was a screw somewhere on the sidewall of the trunk, can't remember which one though. once you pull the trunk liner out though you'll easily see what's usable and what isn't.

 

Yea i tried doing it without the seats off, however my hands are kinda wide and i needed to take the seat off. And for a ground, anything that is touching the chassis of the car and theres a bolt there you can take off, use it.

 

yeah i had to use a fishtape that i had to get it done. otherwise my hands are a little too big as well to comfortably fit back there.

there are some bolts that i found are square and they appear tac welded to the body but i know i found some usable screws back there and of course the mounting screws for the XM receiver. just don't over tighten them!

 

I took and ran mine down the driver side. No seat removal other then the seat bottom for the back seat, the hardest part was running the wire through the firewall. I can get pictures if needed to show you where i ran it.

 

thanks guys it was pretty easy following mommy's guide. I already had my backup cam wire running through the back so I just followed it through with a little patience. Check out my new thread in setting amp gain, this Bose system is getting in the way :-(
