very nice work! i may consider doing this for my car. i have a few questions:

does your google maps/cell phone screen have to be on in order for it to show up on the car screen? what type of input wires does the phone/av electronics unit use?

THANKS!

Can you take a close up pic of the backup camera in the rear of the car? I'm interested to see how well it fits (was not clear in the vid). Does the camera fit perfectly in the OEM hole? Do you know if the place that installed it for you put in a washer or something like that to prevent water/moisture from getting in?

How's it holding up?

Thanks!

It really was a perfect fit. I'll get a pic later, but the camera itself is sealed so moisture wont affect the camera itself. In regards to the hole, it was snug fit, so i dont think a washer would be able to fit. The camera is doing great! no complaints. it performs just as stock.

yes it has to be on. it basically mirrors your phone screen. but be careful however. the AVelectronics module uses a RCA video connection to connect to the phone.

but the phone MUST have video-out capability. Luckily with teh HTC incredible, the phone supported video-out through its micro-USB port. I used a micro-usb --> RCA cable from htc to connect to the module. however, i recently upgraded my phone to a HTC rezound, which does not support video-out. So i can no longer output my phone display on my screen

Thanks for the reply. I have an OG Droid but I am looking to upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus or Rezound. If it doesn't output, then this install is no go for me.

What a great post! I also have the g35x 2008 with the same options. I plan to use my iPhone 4s for navigation, with MotionX GPS, which supports TV out and also voice turn-by-turn. I have a cable for the iPhone 4s that has the video/RCA jacks, and also a USB for power from the existing 12 volt socket in the storage compartment.

Where did you install the new video module? In the existing storage compartment, I have the iPod interface and the video and RCA jacks, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of room for extra components.

I'm going to print out this post and bring it to my audio shop. I'll have them disconnect the battery beforehand to avoid any issues with the blinking airbag light.

Thanks!

How did it also pick up your phone? I really didn't understand that part. I'm looking to do something very similar. I wonder how much it would cost at the dealership to do.

Actually I have no idea where the shop but the module. They probably mounted it behind the dash somewhere. I've been meaning to find out haha. It defineitely isnt mounted in the storage compartment, but somewhere stealth behind some body panels.

Firstly, you MUST make sure the phone supports TV-out. It's a software-driven trigger, meaning if you plug it in, the phone should come up with a prompt saying "do you want to display to TV-out". That is ONLY if your phone supports TV-out. If your phone does not support TV-out, then this module can't help you display your device on the screen.

The phone used in the video was a HTC incredible, which incidently supports TV-Out. The cable was a HTC cable that had a micro-USB connector on one end and RCA (Audio&Video) connectors on the other end. Upon connecting the cable in to the phone and module, the TV Out prompt would pop up.

The unfortunate thing is, I recently upgraded to a HTC rezound, which does not support TV out. So I am no longer able to enjoy my screen using my new phone.

I have the Sprint Evo, not sure if it does TV-OUT but I would think it would.

Would you be able to PM me the parts you used to do this? Part of my problem is finding the correct items to buy.

Literally all the parts used are in the attached pictures.

Camera: Ebay (Farenheit CCD-4XS)
Module: AVElectronics (ask for the $200 one)
Trunk Trim: Purchased from forum user.

The shop should do the rest. If they give you any grief about "Oh, it looks like we will have to tap into the wires" or "there will need to be fabrication" just call their BS and tell em its all plug and play. It just needs to be wired through the car.

chances are it's behind the monitor since that's where the closest empty space is. If you look in my thread about my backup camera i took a picture of it in there, fits perfectly.

good to know that someone actually done it... while maybe lot of people have done it
but they didn't post anything.
I'm just wondering about choosing a reliable shop for doing this project,
I live in the philadelphia area, driving to NY or NJ won't be too far,
where did you get the job done?

I got mine done at a local car audio/video installer near where I live (not in NY or NJ).
Honestly, the way I determined where to get mine done was through a series of Yelp reviews and calling them for a price quote. I went with the lowest quote + highest review ratio.

I'm sure there are plenty of audio/video places in Philly. Just find one with great reviews.

Thanks for the reply. Also, how did you get your hdmi output from your android phone to the interface.
Does the interface come with a HDMI connection?
