Navigation Update

I have an 08 G35xS with Navigation. I found the upgrade for 2014 is $149 for the code plus what ever the dealer wants to charge for the install. My question is has anyone ever upgraded their Nav. Is it worth it. I've never been anywhere the streets were not shown or the road led me to a lake. I have a garmin for my other car which has lots of interesting POI. Am I just wasting my money on an upgrade or did the add some cool features. My next step will be to call the dealership and ask their opinion, but I know they are in the business to make money so I'm sure they will say it's great

I did the 10-11 update when I first purchased my car. Will be dropping off my car tomorrow for a number of services to include the 2014 nav update. I will keep you posted. I only anticipate updated streets to be honest, but figure I will be good for a couple years after that.

Navagation Update

Thanks for your reply. I was just thinking about relisting my question since no one replied. I've been on the fence to update or not. Please let me know what you think of your update. If it is only as you expect just additional streets, I might hold off. I was hoping for additional POI's. The navigation site lists all the additions but I would rather get your opinion. It's not the money just the value.
Thanks
Barry

No worries. We have a butt load of new gas stations around here so it will be interesting to see if they show on my new maps.

I was looking at getting this upgrade as well, still on the 2008 version.

Does the actual appearance of the maps change at all? Or is it just the new roads and points of interest?

I would say that if you are still on the original version, then it's worth it to upgrade...otherwise save your money unless you drive a lot and go to cities that you are unfamiliar with.

It does not change the actual appearance of the maps, just adds more streets and POI's.

Was also thinking about doing the update. I have an 08 I purchased this past summer and it has the original maps. I have already had a few places around me not come up when trying to do a search with the POI and also when trying to put in an address. It does the auto complete and I cant find what i'm looking for half of the time. And just to clarify, it does not actually update the NAV system, just the streets & POI? Also, If you don't mind me asking, What did the dealership charge you on top of the ~149? Thanks!

Navigation Update

I still have not had my Nav updated but insude the thread there is a great description from another contributor. At my dealership it's $149 for the service. I must supply the dealer with the update code wnich you must purchase online at the Nav site which runs $200. As far ast he Nav goes try using the voice recognition to enter addresses. I find entering the streets manualy I have the same problems you have. I've had some unexpected expenses this year so I decieded to wait to update my nav. As soon as it's done I will update this post

For 2007-2009 models, the dealership does its. It's an HDD install, not DVD based like the 2003-2006 or 2010+ that people can typically do on their own.

Has anyone figured out how to do the install themselves rather than take the 2007 - 2009 models to the dealership. I hate the idea of paying 120.00 for a techy to do the upgrade in 20 minutes.
