i just want to go with another tire because i know the potenza sucks *** for tread life.
It seems the bf goodriches have almost 3x the tread life.

I'm not a crazy driver, so I think they will be fine.
I can't imagine affording new tires every year, especially with these being $200 per tire.

There are quite a few sets of HPAS tires available in these sizes. The 225/50/18 front OEM size is the really problematic one as the rear size does have quite a few options open. The speedo offset for the fronts is 1.5%, anyone know if this approach is good/bad?

In comparing 225/50 and 235/50 the sidewall height will change, therefore the overall diameter will change as well, in this case it is 26.7" and 27.3" respectively. Here is a handy tool for calculating this:

ah so if the tire is too smal for the wheel then it will get stretched width wise and the diameter will be smaller. Kewl Thanks for the correction.

Right on. Good post.

You are exactly right, the 225/50/18s in the front are the killer size. Many options available in 235/50/18, and then you can stick with 245's in rear or even bump up to 255's I think.

Not quite, the first few numbers in the tire code (225/50 for example) describe the tire width in mm and the aspect ratio of the sidewall. Check this link, about half way down the page "Section Width":

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46

The tires themselves do not stretch or shrink with width...that wouldn't work out to well for the car driving on them...

You guys should quit your complaining...

Tires were a lot more money on my 05 G35 Coupe 6MT with the 19" wheels...

Why the difference?

Anybody know why the tires are different front & back? Dealer said it was just aesthetic - looks sportier - but that seems an odd reason to make rotation impossible.

The dealer said that the different tires are for aesthetics?
Is the dealer THAT clueless about handling/understeer/oversteer?

This was very helpful. I did not realize that the 235 tire ideal partner is a 7.5 inch room. I was concerned about turniin and muffin top with the tires. I moved north so I need a winter worthy tire (rear-wheel drive, deep snow = STUCK!) I also had some concern about the change in tire diameter. After giving it some thought, and alot of research, I rather be .5in too big with the 235-50 than .5in too small with the 235-45.
