18" tire package

The front and back tires are a different size on the 07 wheel package.

Is it possible to change all the 18" tires to the same size??

The front rims are 7.5" wide and the rear rims are 8.5" wide.

I'll say, yes ... you can if you use a spacer in the front when using the 8.5 wheel for front and back..

terry, he is saying he wants to keep the stock rims, just wanting to run the same size tire on the different sized rims.

yeah. i'm planning to buy the car, but I was unsure about the wheel package because you can't rotate.

How much are the 18" tire replacements anyway? do they wear out fast?
I just want to keep maintenance costs to a minimum

Link,
I had the same concern. I bought a G35S 6MT and traded the wheels/tires for the 17" wheels and then traded the OEM tires for a set of Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge performance touring tires. I actually wanted a 6-speed Journey, but that was not an option. The OEM 18" tires (Bridgestone Potenzas) are the only replacement option for the front tires - at this point.

What?! we're held hostage by Bridgestone for the front tires?
No other brand makes that size?

our murano was held hostage for a good 3 years before any other tyre manufacturers began producing oem size replacements

That's what I thought too, but I don't think that is entirely true.

That's the really strange thing.

When you research the "ideal rim size" for the Bridgestone Potenzas, the recommended size in the front is 7" (225/50/18) and the rear is 8" (245/45/18). Yet Infiniti chose wheels that are 7.5" in the front and 8.5" in the rear, which according to Bridgestone and Tirerack is *not* the perfect size rim, those rims are 1/2 inch too large.

The manufacturer recommended size tires for the 7.5" front rim are 235/50/18 (which now lets us get Pilot Sports, Goodyears, Pirellis) and for the 8.5" rear rim are 255/50/18...

So, in short, the rims Infiniti chose are a little "too big" for the Bridgestone Potenzas that come from the factory...the rims are within the specificed recommended range but not perfect.

I was looking into the possiblity of using 235/50/r18 tires for both front and back, since these are made for 7-8.5" wheels.

there's a huge tire selection at this size.

but, the tire diameter is out of spec by 2% on the large side.

This 2% won't fark up the car computer, will it??

I have not really calculated the difference, but the fact that we have 7.5" and 8.5" rims seems to give us some options, not as bad as I originally thought.

I think Tire rack's website says you are ok if less than 3% or something...but by looking at various sizes...you should be ok.

Me personally, I would prefer to keep the staggered set up, I'd be more concerned about not going staggered and taking the approach you are thinking about.

I would try 235/50/18 in the front (as opposed to 225) and 255/45/18 in the rear (as opposed to 245 i think)....since we now have 225/50/18 in the front and 245/45/18 in the rear...this is getting confusing!

i don't understand how the width of the tire can affect the computer. Your wheels will still be spinning at the same number of rotations. Only a change in the diameter the rim+tire can have adverse affects on how the car calculates the speedometer. Please correcte me if im wrong.

I was actually thinking of getting 235/50/18's up front and 245/45/18's in the rear when it is time to change out my OEM's (either from wear or for next winter) as it doesn't really get too cold around here but there is the occasional dip below freezing. There are quite a few sets of HPAS tires available in these sizes. The 225/50/18 front OEM size is the really problematic one as the rear size does have quite a few options open. The speedo offset for the fronts is 1.5%, anyone know if this approach is good/bad?

In comparing 225/50 and 235/50 the sidewall height will change, therefore the overall diameter will change as well, in this case it is 26.7" and 27.3" respectively. Here is a handy tool for calculating this:
