Wheel Spacers (size and installation?)

Coming from the VW, we used wheel bolts, so you just simply bought a spacer and longer bolts and you were set... no studs.

How do the studs/spacers work on the Infiniti?

What size are people using on the oem 18" sport wheels/tires for a good 'flush' look that won't rub on H&R sport springs?

The wheel spacers for Infinitis work like any other spacer. If your spacer is 5mm, then your replacement bolts should be 5mm longer. Same with 10mm, 15mm, 20mm. But with 25mm spacers, they have wheel studs built into them. You slide the 25mm spacer onto the hub, secure the spacer onto the stock bolts with 5 nuts, slide wheel over the spacer, and secure the wheel using 5 more bolts with the bolts that are built into the spacer. So basically you'll have 10 nuts on that corner.

I've seen 15mm spacers that have the studs built in to them. Kics I know has them.

If I were to put spacers on the stock wheels on a lowered car, I would use 15mm all the way around.

not all spacers work exactly the same. some hubs have studs and some are flush and use bolts.

this is a VW hub w/ a "centering dowel" in place. It is used to position the wheel correctly to bolt it down w/ the 5 lug 'bolts', not 'nuts'.

to use longer studs in the Infiniti, the stock studs would have to be removed correct? Is this an easy or difficult process? On the VW you just bought the thicker spacer and longer bolts, no stud pulling/re-pressing required.

Interesting! So for VW's, you have lug bolts that actually screw into pre-threaded holes in the hub.

Yes, for Infiniti you have to press out the stock bolts from the hub. My friend did it on his driveway with a hammer (to knock the old bolts out) and an air wrench and open nut (to get the the new bolts back in). If it were me, I'd just bring it to a shop.

Wow, the VW way seems so much easier....

I think he is asking "how do you replace the studs with longer ones?" VW's use bolts through the wheel threaded into a female threaded hub.

Infiniti is the opposite, it has a male stud attached to the hub and a nut holding the wheel on.

I'm curious as well.

try holding the wheel up and putting a bolt through and threading it w/o that little dowel thing tho stripped hub city.

super easy to swap spacers though when i ran FWD slicks and needed clearance off the suspension.

15mm spacers that have studs built into them?? The nuts that it utilizes must be fairly thin (to not protrude past the face of the spacer) because 15mm is only 3/5 of an inch! But, if they really do exist that would sure save the trouble of replacing the old bolts.

i'd be weary of weakening or skimping on this area too much... i'll be having new studs pressed in if i go w/ spacers.

Yes they exist, and yes the nuts are thin and use a special key. Kics makes them and they are highly reguarded. They good thing about them is that they are easy to put on and take off - I guess the downside is you have twice as many lugs that could come loose.

so I actually know a bit about this cuz I had it done to my car.. the studs are actually really easy to replace on our cars, the rotor rotates almost completely around so u jus pop the old studs out and pop the new ones in.

i didnt do mine but I saw it done, looked easy enough

The project Kics spacers with the nuts flush with the spacer are really good, they look sick BUT I personally was not able to use them.. let me see if I remember the reason.. I think because the stock studs were too long and protruded past the spacer..or something..

For anything less than a 10mm spacer though, you shouldnt need new studs. to grip more thread you can use ET lugnuts instead of the stock ones.

Does anyone make the 10mm with the bolts built into the spacer? I cant find anything smaller than a 15mm with the bolts built on.
