Adding an aftermarket sub to Studio on Wheels

Hi guys, i just bought 2007 G35 auto with touring package (only 2000 kms) with studio on wheels.

I just crashed my 300C last week and got fractured ribs (it was a 2006 300C hemi with 22's!!)... So i am glad to be back to the Vq35 (i used to own a 2k2 and 2k3 maxima 6speed as well.

Anyhow, i am a big time bass head. I always had a system in teh car. TOday i was listening to the SOW, and I feel the bass is still inadequate.

I read through the service manual and it appears the rear 10" sub is actually separately amplified (separate connector with separate power source). I was going to replace this with a sub box and amp (as my old system in my 300C was destroyed in the crash).

Any ideas if i can just use a line convertor and hook up an amp? Anybody add any aftermarket components to this car?

I added a ported kappa 10 and then 2 10 MTX. Now, I've pulled it all out. It's hard to add a decent sub without overpowering the factory balance. When I add bass fron the trunk, I loose the tight kick bass from the doors. It sounds ok with hip hop and terrible with anything else. The car resonates at like 30hz, the with large subs, the 30hz is almost too strong. I may try a single ported 8 next. Anyone else?

Interesting - thought you'd given up on VQs after your two Max's, and went to a 300C (maxima.org)?

You can use a line converter. I ran mine from the speakers in the rear doors. I also used a similar converter for the remote.

If you add a 10" sub, why get rid of the factory sub? Just add the sub in the truck and keep the factory one as well.

I have the base stereo and a 10" kicker solobaric sub (old round one) sealed box.

It sounds pretty decent, but not fantastic. Bass is way more muddy instead of tight like the stock stereo.

I crashed my 300C last week, suffered a fractured rib.

I got a SERIOUSLY good price on this g35 (less than an ALTIMA new) which only had 2500kms!

Ed, that is a fantastic deal. A new 08 Altima SE goes for $32000 plus tax. and you got it for less than that , WOW, thats pretty hard to believe.
Good for you and Congratulations.

Actually, I used the input to the sub amp as the line level to my amp. No converter. I have plenty of gain available.

Can i connect a sub to the stock amp (by disconnecing the stock sub in the rear dash) or will this blow out the amp?

Last time i checked, bose uses either 1 ohm or 2ohm but i doubt the amp has enough juice to push a decent set of subs.

Does anybody know the crossover frequencies for the sub amp?

If you take it from before the sub amp, are you saying htat it is line level?
