Sport 18" Wheels as Winters
Sport 18" Wheels as Winters
Hey guys,
I haven't posted for a while but my moms G is on its way now and should be here in a couple of weeks. Where we live we get some decent sized snowfalls every year. Now my moms G doesn't come with any winter tires, just the sport 18" rims. I was wondering if I can persuade her into getting 19" G37 Wheels, she can use the Sport 18s as winters. I was wondering how well the 18s would handle in the snow. Also which tire would be best? During our winters we get a lot of ice, snow maybe from about 0-8 inches. Which tire would be best a winter like that?
Thanks, Brendan
By the way it's an 07 G35S Sedan.

it's your mom's G, she probably doesn't need to spend ~1800 for some G37 wheels, AND have to pay to get snow tires put on her 18's. Just tell her to get snow tires put on, or get a set of 17's (if they clear, and put thicker snow tires on that)
yeah if its your moms car why would you care if she has 19" rims???? I doubt she cares about it so why waste the money. As far as the 18s as snow tires, i use them and they work great, i have no complaints. 245s in the back and 225s in the front
If it's your mom's G, or hell, even if it's your G, I'd advice against 19s unless you really really have a hardon for the larger wheel look. It's alot of money to spend and IMO, 19s don't add much, from a performance standpoint, larger wheels are usually more of a detriment, especially since our stock 18s are pretty light already.
That said, for winter weather, you really want to go with thinner tires. the 18s with 225f/245r may not be the best choice if there's a decent amount of snow. I'd say save the money, and buy 17s with 225s all around.
Btw, if you or your mom really really want 19s, then I'd say buy 19s, sell the 18s on ebay or this site, 1000+ seems not unrealistic, buy 17s and 17 snow tires with the money you make on the 18s. More economical that way.
