I noticed that my rear tires wear faster on the outside edge than the inside. After ~25k miles, the inner-most tire groove is noticably deeper than the outer-most one. Is it normal? Has anyone noticed the same thing? I'd really appreciate it if someone would check their tires and report their findings!

Fyi, my suspension is stock, and I really don't think my alignment is off as I've never hit potholes or big bumps (I know alignment will become out of whack eventually no matter how carefully you drive, but not after 25k normal driven miles!)

 

wow, thats crazy i just noticed this weekend changing my rims that the tread on the outside was worn and the inner rib wasnt even showing any sign of wear at all and i only have 7k! i hope this doesnt happen to my new tires i just think these bridgestones are garbage!

 

Granted I have 25k miles on the stock Potenza's (which is a lot more than some what some people here have gotten out of their stock tires), but if the outside tread wore as well as the inside, my rear tires would have a lot more miles left on the them!

Utilizing the penny test on the outside tread indicates I need to change them now. Center tread, 5000 more miles. Inside tread, at least 10k more miles!

Seems like Infiniti dialed in some weird rear tire setting from the factory?

Fyi, the fronts tires are wearing just fine.

 

The tread depth on the RE 050A tires is much deeper in the center section than the outer section. I think the 140 treadwear number comes from measuring the outer section.

 

Interesting. What purpose do you suppose that would that serve?

The tires would definitely last longer if the outer treads were as deep as the center and inner treads...

 

does this mean people with drop and slight negative camber in the rear helps even out tire wear?

 

or what about when turning hard and more force is applied to the outside edge of the tire

 

humm.... i wondering about what infamous425 said.... I wasn't planning on dropping my G, but if i did would it look better AND get better wear on the tire??? time for some 20's with a drop.....

 

sounds like the camber kit isnt needed afterall with a drop. anyone with a drop ever post how their tire wear has been?

 

+1 Doesn't this reflect hard turning / braking? That's how I took it when my first set wore out - they still had tread in the middle, but edges were gone.

 

usually if both edges are gone with the middle fine, it's a sign of under-inflation of the tire...

Are the Bridgestones directional? I can't remember. I went to the Discount Tire by my house to have a flat fixed and wanted to get a quote on some new tires since these already have 16K and will likely need replacing soon. The tech said that I needed to get a asymetric tire due to the camber settings in the rear. He noted that if I chose a directional tire, it would wear faster. Take it for what it is worth, it was a tire tech at the tire shop, not an Infiniti tech, but he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Those guys seen tons of cars each day. At any rate, that might offer soem insight into your problem.

 

Track day included...on one straight, 110 to 30 into a tight right-hander.
