New tires-225/55/17 vs. 225/45/17

Well I have had enough with the stock RSA's on my 07X. They are absolutely terrible in the snow/ice as far as grip and stopping is just down right scarey! I REALLY wanted to get the ContiExtremeContact from Continental since that is what I had on my Audi a few years ago and they are a FANTASTIC all around tire, but they do not have them in stock size. They do have them in 225/45/17 though. Would it be a big deal if I went down to that size? Overall diameter would go down I know, but would it make a big difference? Anyone else went down to that size?

First question: WHY?
A smaller overall diameter will throw off both the speedometer and ABS and give you a stiffer ride. There simply is no advantage or benefit to what you plan to do.

Throw on some winter tires, they will out-perform any all season tire anytime on ice and snow.

Why? Because this tire is an AMAZING all around tire and I really want it on the G. But if it is going to throw the speedometer off that much and mess up the ABS I guess its not worth it?

I just want one set of tires. Don't want to have to be changing tires during the year each year.

I had this tire on my Audi and it was AMAZING in the snow.

wouldn't 225/45 be very far off from stock, like cruising at 60mph but you're redlining (exaggeration) because the diameter is too small

google tire calculator and see how far it's off

the other way would be getting wider tires to get the ratio closer to stock and still keep 45 profile
