Anyone know about how bad it would be to change from the V-rated RS-As we have to an H-rated tire. H-rated tires are rated to 130mph, a speed that I have never hit and don't ever plan on hitting. I know that Costco for example wont install an H-rated tire on our cars since the OE tire is V-rated.

I'm thinking I can just buy a set and have a local shop a friend owns to install them. I'm particularly looking at the BF Goodrich Traction T/A H-rated since they make those in 225/55/17 (for some reason they don't make the V-rated version in that size). I have the H-rated Traction T/As on my 2001 Honda Civic and absolutely love them.

I'm also considering as an alternative the Cooper Zeon Sport A/S Z-rated in 225/55/17. Anyone have any experience with this tire?

I don't see a problem with the different speed rating. The rating is still very high. Heck a lot of us are running Blizzak WS-50 tires in the winter and they have a very low speed rating (I know they are winter tires)

People should not be doing 130mph anyway, unless they are on a track.

After a 3-month search, I have finally found an answer in my local newspaper. Here is a link to the article:

http://www.wheels.ca/article/254328

The Yokohama W.drive.

It is basically a winter tire that drives like a summer tire, and the rubber compound is a special one that does not crack or harden.

I ordered from Discount Tire Direct, for $112 each(!), not paying $250+ for Michelins! I am getting them installed this weekend at Niagara Falls. I shall report once they are on the car.

It looks very interesting and promising if it lives up to the hype...definitely keep us posted.

Back from Niagara. Installation took less than an hour. They resetted the TPMS as well.

So far the tires have not been fully broken in yet (300km so far), but the first things I noticed were how much quieter they were compared to the Eagle RS-A, and also much grippier (in the rain!).

So far, all positive.
