Exclamation Front Only Drop - on X.

I have been looking into doing a very conservative drop on my Skyline ( X )...

I considered the Impuls for a long time but have decided top first try a front only drop of 20 - 25mm ( 1" ) using RSR Ti2000 springs...

The RSR's are a good quality cold wound high freq. spring and to buy the kit for both ends would mean a 20-25 front & 15-20mm rear drop set -- potentially giving me ONLY a maximum -10mm front down drop...

I calculated that to bring my car to exactly the same fender height over the tires I needed at least 25-30mm stronger drop in the front...

In the end my local shop has been nice to work with me on checking out what the RSR susp. engineers thought of this project and have told me that if I don't like it for any reason RSR will take the springs back / get me rears asap or perhaps even wind me a pair of rears to give me the front - rear height balance I am looking for...

I should get the springs put in within the next few days and will be sure to take some good before and afters as well as some finite measurements...

Specs on the fronts are 8.68kg/mm - rears in the RSR set are 8.43 which is apparently close to stock on my vehicle... again - we'll see...

FWIW - the RSR guys said that they haven't done this on a X but that the spring rates / rebound frequency and drop should present no" foreseeable problems..

I will keep you posted...

Cheers,

HERE we GO...

Front spring replacement went well - a few comments...

The RSR Ti2000 springs for the V36 Skyline ( G35 Sedan ) are advertised as a 20-25mm drop...

Sidebar - Somebody needs to proofread the Japanese translation of WARNING - WARNIG

Free standing height of new springs was 295mm on 8.68 kg/mm spring rate... Free height of stock X springs was around 353mm...

Here is a composite before and after... In the end the front dropped 25mm and the rear went up 2mm as a result of the roll center / weight transfer...

My thoughts are I would like to see the back come down about 10mm to make it perfect in my mind - but I am going to drive it for a while and see if it grows on me - I think that changing the rears to the RSR's might be a bit too much as they are advertised as 15-20mm because I think that the front will come up about 3 or 4mm at the same time... Oh well...

BTW - After a brief test drive - the front feels VERY nice - perhaps a touch stiffer but nicely balanced withe the rear - drives quite nice..

I will post a better picture in the coming days but for now here it is....

COMMENTS ????

Cheers and thanks in advance for your input... My first crazy thought was that all I need to do is put 2 bags of cement in the trunk and it will be perfect...

Hey man, I got an 08X as well, lowered on eibach pros on all 4 corners.

As much as I can appreciate what you're doing with the front end drop only (trying to match the fender to tire gap), the handling must be a bit out of whack. I would (I did) drop the whole thing. But in reality, you are only really sacrificing a bit of handling/stability, which, may not be a big deal for you anyways, after all it cant be worse than stock.

But credit is due where credit is due... the car looks great, gaps are even, and you got that aggressive raked forward stance. GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like it. To the naked eye the spacing looks very even front and back. Why couldn't Infiniti have done it this way? Nice job!

Night Cruise..

Thanks all for the comments and encouragement...

Went for a nice 2 hour night cruise here tonight before the G8 Summit crazies start coming out of the woodwork....

I can allay any fears /warnings by johnnyzee that the front and rear will be out of wack - they "in fact" seem better balanced now than stock IMO...

Definitely the front is stiffer but it seems to do a better job of counteracting the heavy AWD front end I think...

It still looks about 1 cm too high in the rear to me but perhaps I am being too **** I'll give it a few weeks and see if the springs settle - I just don't think that dropping the rear 15-20mm with the matching RSR springs is going to cut it for me - too squatty for my likes...

Wow ... linear springs. This a big difference from the current suppliers.

edit: Hey ... the Japanese model has a keyhole on the passenger side?

They make the car look very level. 1mm ... you must be low on fuel! There is no way I could tell.

This is what I was thinking of doing on my 07 - G35-s, as I don't want much if any drop in the rear, but would like to close the gap in the front.
