G35S - Replacing front stock rims with rear stock

I apologize if this is either in the wrong section or has been covered. I searched and didn't find the answer. If it's been covered I appreciate pointing me in the correct direction...

I'm considering purchasing 2 rear stock rims and putting them on the front of my 07 G35S and then running the stock rear tire size both front and rear (245/45 front and rear). I'll likely go with a good quality all-season tire. The goal is to be able to rotate the tires and get somewhat better winter/cold temp traction. I'm not interested in a dedicated winter tire and don't mind giving up a little summer grip. I have a Land Cruiser to cover any significant snow/ice.

The stock rears are .6% shorter and 8.9% wider than the stock fronts. Assuming the speedo sensor is located at the front axle this will cause a very small speed error.

Will the wider tires/rims fit the front? Will the small .6% difference be enough to cause any issues with the vehicle stability control?

Thanks.

it's the offset that's the problem.

^ he is right, i thought about doing this so i switch one side and put the back rims on the front. doesn't look right.

the speed is picked up in the trany, which is from the rear wheels.

VDC needs a less then 3% difference in tire rotation from front to back .

I think that is a great idea to run the wider 8.5 rims with the same size tire all round. I would definitely go for it and it would work fine. My set-up is close to that.

I thought I heard there was a peg or "key" if you will, that prevented you from putting the fronts on back or the backs on front.?.?

That is just a pin that is screwed into the front hub. It is easily removed from the front hub. I think you just need a 12mm socket or wrench to unscrew it.

Would you mind elaborating?

According to this thread, there's a 5mm difference in offset between the front and rear (45mm Fr vs 50 mm Rr). Is it a matter of appearance or is there another problem caused by increasing front offset 5mm (2/10ths inch) ?

Thanks for all the info so far.

Thanks again.

I noticed a few people running the oem M-Sport 18" wheels on their G. The M-sport wheels are 19X8.5 with 50mm offset all four corners. Other than the difference of 18" vs 19", putting the G35s rears on the front would look very similar, correct?

Yes, and many of them are running spacers with them, just to push them out a bit for a more flush and aggressive appearance.

Thanks GEE35X. That makes sense. Sounds like I need to do some research on the practicality of spacers. I've always frowned on them in the past.

I used to thing the same as you....
The newer hubcentric spacers with built in studs are quite good.
Even Porsche uses them on their OE setup.

e.g. the Ichiba V2

Thanks for all the info so far.
FYI - Offset is only part of the picture.
eg. an 8" wide wheel with +45 offset fits entirely different than
a 10" wheel with +45 offset.

the 10" will EXTEND an extra 25mm.

more Info here...

OK, finally got around to purchasing a set of rear oem sport wheels to go on the front.

Looking at the offset calculator that InTgr8r so nicely linked to...going from the 7.5" 45mm OS to the 8.5" 50mm OS will cause the front wheels to be pushed outward 8mm.

Does this sound right? How do you think it will look? Should I order spacers for the rear wheels to push them out in order to make things look "even"? Do you think 8mm (.3") will even make much of a visual difference?

Again, I really appreciate the feedback. Hopefully I can accomplish my goal of being able to rotate tires and maintain the same basic factory look.

Thanks!

i think ordering spacers for the rear is a good idea. im not sure if they make them in that small of increments but it will make it look nice
