Brakes thump when wet
Brakes thump when wet
My car has 36k miles on it, original front brakes and the rears have new oem pads installed 5k miles ago. I have had this problem for a while but is it normal for the brakes to really make a loud thumping noise when its raining out? It could also be snow, basically the brakes make this loud thump sound when you depress the brake pedal. You can feel it inside the car, is this normal? When its warm out then I have no issues.
funny how you got your pads replaced and its making this noise all the sudden?? just do yourself a favor and take it back to the dealership.. unless you got it installed at a local auto shop. try to schedule an appointment when you know the weather isnt going to be nice to recreate the noise for the mechanic. it could be your pads installed wrong and when lubericated with water causes it to slip or faulty pad. where is the sound comming from? front left/right, back left/right.
I always had this issue and before the dealer tried replacing the rotors and that worked at first but over time it went back to making the noise. The pads were installed by a local mechanic and I dont think it affected any thing as its been the same before and after the change. It feels as if the noise is coming from the front, its hard to tell. I had the rear pads replaced. I guess with the recent winter storms in the north east this problem is becoming more of an annoyance now then before.
it snowed today...and its the first time my X was in this type of weather.....with about 500 miles. I realize that when the brakes are fully pressed...then depressed....it makes a hard thump as well.
Since i live 5min from my dealership, i went in and the service technician drove my car for about 5 minutes and said it was normal due to the weather.
hmmmmmm....
