Gen1 17in wheels on Gen2 6MT sedan?

Hello,

As an option for winter wheels I was looking for some 17 or 18 inch wheels from a Gen1 03-06 G35 to put on my 2008 G35 Sport 6MT.

Will the 17's fit over the brakes?

Yes like he said, and get coupe wheels if You can.Coupe wheels will fill the wheel wells better. Im running the coupe wheels here, but I am still looking for some nicer looking 17's. I tried 6 different aftermarket 17's, but they all hit the brake calipers.

My 2004 sport 17" wheels do not clear my 07 sport brakes.

How wide do the 17's need to be to fit a 2007 6MT? 8 inches for the fronts & 8 1/2 inches in the back? Why are finding aftermarket 17's so difficult? I'm looking for winter rims & would appreciate knowing the width I need to get.

Thanks

I'm looking for some 17's for my 2007 6Mt. What width do I need to secure to get them to fit over my brakes? I'm looking for aftermarket wheels.

Thanks,

Biggest issue is not the width of the rim, but the offset and the curvature of the spokes to clear the caliper. Best bet would be to get a set off of someone like Tirerack. Guaranteed fitment that way. Honestly, I think a 17" rim would not be a good idea since the choices would be very limited to clear the caliper with the 17" diameter. With the stock 18's and the sport brakes, there is only
1/2" clearance on the barrel of the wheel.

The difficulty in fitting 17'' aftermarket wheels on the sport model, is that it is hard to find a set that will clear the brake calipers.I tried 6 different wheels at Americas tire, with no success.Even some manufacturers claimed that their wheels would clear big brakes, but so far, the only 17's that fit are the 03-04 coupe wheels.I am still looking,so if I find anything else,I will let You know,or if You find anything, let us know.I will get the coupe wheel dimensions, and post them later.

03-04 coupe wheel dimensions
front 17x7.5 +30 offset
rear 17x8 +33 offset
These fit and clear My 08 sport sedan brakes.Getting a wheel with these same dimensions will not guarantee that they will fit.Like G35 6gear said, the shape of the spokes, and inner diameter of the wheel are important.Manufacturers do not list these dimensions,so,You just have to test fit a bunch of wheels to get one that fits.

Thanks for the information. Looks like my best option is to contact Tire Rack & have them fit me up with 17 or 18 inch winter rims for my 2007 6MT Coupe. Sounds like the selection may be quite limited.

Thanks very much,
Steve

I would ideally like to run some Nokien snow tires on 17" rims on my 2007 6MT Coupe. 225-50-17's are available for the front, but 235-50-17's are not available for the rear. The available rear sizes are 225-55-17 & 235-45-17. Would either of the two rear sizes work with the 225-50-17 front tires?

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks.

OK so the stock 08G35S 6MT offsets are what again then?

I won't keep the staggered widths with my winter set. I thought the GEN1 17's were mostly fitted with same width or not staggered wheels. So the coupes in 03-04 have wheels that fit the front brakes, no others?
