I would love some shocks so i wont have to worry about my OEm shocks getting fvcked up with my drop.

 

Hey Robby, with those struts how do you get the engine cover off? do you have to dismantle the struts?

But it's easy to take off. Takes like 30 seconds each side.

 

yeah looks simple enough, but when put them back do you have to re-torque it to a specific setting? or just put them on hard?

 

I tighten till i feel its right but it has to be really tight, but enough so u will be able to take it off. lol

 

hehe.. Yeah, it's called the RFT method... really freaking tight!

I've had my strut tower bar on an off probably 5 or 6 times already and as Robby mentioned, it only takes a couple of minutes, so it's not difficult at all. Plus, how often are you expecting to have to remove the engine cover? Not too often I'd expect.

I've tooken it off a few times but it has never come in my way.
I tighten the **** out of it, but i could still take it off lol

Adrian, have you been getting scratches on the bar yet?

 

Just a few scratched from wrenching around, Robby, but nothing major. I'll probably polish it back up this weekend.

It's scratched but it looks like it can come off. I tried to polish it out but it didnt come off at all. Maybe you might know how to take it off.

Yeah, right now I'm planning to be there... but I've got some friends going to Salt Lake for the weekend, so I may go there instead. I should know tomorrow night for sure.

FYI... I believe that the bar is made out of stainless steel, so that mean it is going to be pretty hard to polish. What are you used to try and polish it? I've got a pneumatic rotary polisher that I use.

The GT website says it's aluminum. I think Mothers alum polish would work on light scratches

Hey guys just out of curiosity, did you feel any difference with the engine strut brace on? Was there less engine roll or front end roll? or is it purely just for looks?

 

It's definitely not just for looks... the Front strut bar definitely made the entire front end more rigid... It was immediately apparent when I went over my first speed bump after installing the bar, but it also seemed to have improved the steering response of the car as well.

 

Thanks for the feedback, I noticed that the car at high speeds i.e. anything over 120kmh handles very wobbly, you need to think about the weight of the car and the way it pulls on corners. I'm getting the Hotchkis ARBs, but now I'm thinking I also need this strut. I might get it soon.

P.S. Is that a Mazda in your avatar?

 

Not sure if the bar will do much, if anything, for high speed stability, but it definitely makes the car feel more solid over rough road and bumps and also improves the steering feel, particularly on turn-in.

It's funny you say that, because I have actually owned a couple of Mazda RX7 convertibles... but this avatar is actually a pic of my Porsche S2 Convertible.
