wheel balancing problems

I got my summer tires remounted at Discount Tire and they dont seem to be balancing the tires right...

Could they have not mounted the tires correctly? As even after having them rebalance the tires, they are already out of balance after driving for a few days.

Any ideas?

I work for the same company, next time you go in ask them to re calibrate the balancer, and also to check the road force on the tires. Not your fault but might have thrown a wheel weight, but not likely since you have already went back once.

When this happened to me, it was because they didn't realize the wheels were staggered, and so didn't change the settings between front and back wheels.

Yeah that happens but most of the time it is only when there is not a noticeable difference between the front and rear. I personally pay more attention especially if its a nicer car or set of wheels.

same here

I got Kumhos, I've had the fronts rebalanced 3 times, got Tirerack to replace the pair, balanced it and Pepboy morons got the inside and outside of tires mounted reversed, went back again and they fixed it but scratched the heck out of the wheels and left old double sided white tapes all over the place. After the 3rd try, I still feel the shimmy on the highway.

The other thing you can do is look for a place that does road force balancing.

tell them to "turn the tire" and then try to rebalance. Back in my high school days jobs at a tire shop, that's what we'd do when someone would complain about the balancing. Basically the tire gets turned on the rim, then rebalanced. usually works.

thanks

i showed the Pepboy manager on the highway around 75mpr and told them to turn the tire and it got a lot better after that. I'm convinced the very little bit of shimmy I still feel on heavily crowned surface at that speed maybe from my tires or their machine since they don't do road force balance, the manager never heard of it. I'm satisfied with the result eventhough I had different places balance them 5 times allready. I'm just wondering if some of this maybe caused by the staggered setup.

might have warped rotors. that was my issue with a shimmy in the steering wheel.

warped rotors intensifies the vibration under breaking, or at least u should notice the difference b/t when brake is applied or not. This is not the case for me as the car drives perfect until >65mph. I've researched more and people have had success with the Hunter machine like InTgr8r' suggested.

yea i forgot to add in, you get a nice pulsating affect in the brake pedal when its depressed, its intensity changes with speed.

I had a terrible time with both of my vehicles and balancing. I took my G and our Minivan to two different shops and still had balancing problems. I looked for a local shop that had the Hunter Road Force Balancing and they balanced the tires perfectly. With the van they were able to identify the problem as the rims and not a balancing or tire problem. I am a believer in the road force balancing from this point forward.

ok, thats where i got my rear tires installed. had no balancing issues there.

and they treat big rims/low profiles great.
