painting the caliper brakes

Wassup guys I got a quick true or false question...I'm planning to paint my calipers black on my '07 G once the weather gets consistantly warm..And I was told that if I paint my calipers, It would void the warrenty of my brakes/calipers I have on my car..Is this correct or no? If it does I'd rather wait for my warrenty to be up and then do it...

The law states that unless the dealer can prove that the paint caused whatever failure you have in your vehicle, then it does not void anything.

Of course, reality is quite different. In most instances you're guilty unless proven innocent.

Painting brake calipers will not affect your warranty, unless you start painting *everything* (i.e., pistons, seals, pads themselves, etc...)

I doubt they will void your warranty -- but then again, i double you'll have any brake "issues" that'll require you to invoke your warranty.

That aside, I painted my TL's calipers with Duplicolor's caliper paint (black) and i used brake cleaner ... all sorts of other recommended cleaners/detergents .. and in the end.. the flaked off.. it's inevitable. I wish I hadn't done it.

This if course was over 70,000 miles ago, and since, all the paint has flaked off, so i'm back to square one.

Save yourself the agony -- either buy calipers that are painted professionally by the manufacturer, or prepare to eventually (after 10,000 miles) be disappointed.

Really??
I painted my calipers as well as the inner part of my rotors about 15000 miles ago and have no flaking or fading issues whatsoever....I have also gotten warranty work done on my car at the dealer (not on the brakes) and they have said nothing about it whatsoever

^lol Csquared. That is ultimate rice.

If you are going to change your calipers into another color, i would suggest you powdercoat them as powdercoating is more durable than just paint.

Mine look exactly like these but black on silver. Same on mine, slick, glossy, no peeling.

No will not void warrenty.

Looking great still,
Completely removed, cleaned and painted them.....You are supposed to let them dry for a long time (I think it was 24 hours) before driving with them

I have a meet tomorrow...I will get recent pictures ....I think those are from October of last year

The type of paint you use will determine how good it will be and how long it will last.

On my old car, i used Duplicolor High Heat (DHH). It was on the calipers for well over 80k miles, and was still in perfect shape when i sold it. DHH is rated for up to 1,200 degrees, unlike most caliper paints that are rated for less than half of that. Brakes can get extremely hot, it's good to have the extra heat resistance. (Some paint can get gooey at high temperature, you don't want that possibly of it oozing into your pads/rotors).

r
On the DHH i used (above), i usually let it dry for a few hours then drive off with it. Most high heat paint cures better with heat, so i used normal driving to heat the brakes enough to act as the heat source
