Brake Pad time?
Brake Pad time?
I have an 07 G35s and it's time to replace the pads. My rotors are warped. Two questions: Should I just turn the rotors and get new pads or get new rotors and pads? I wasn't sure how long the rotors would last after being turned. Which pads to go with? I don't autocross or race, but I'm pretty hard on the brakes.
I'm thinking of getting some slotted and drilled rotors and some aftermarket pads to go with the stock calipers, and getting the calipers painted silver.
Not sure about the rest of your question, but if your rotors are warped, I would recommend new rotors...probably not terribly safe or comfortable to ride around with warped rotors.

^ Turning is usually ok on low powered cars where braking is not so hard and crucial, if trying to save money go ahead and turn them and change out the rotors later on, i changed to slotted/drilled and feel confident that these wont warp as easily as the stockers as the are the premium grade where they are made to handle 500lbs more of pressure and the drilled should help dissipate the heat better and avoid the issue i had with OEM's.
have had these rotors for about ~12-15k and very happy!

^^^ lol, I was wondering how long the pads and rotors would last, im @ 18,000 now and the rotors n pads seem to be doing just fine!

I embellished a tad. It's $3600 and I have a 5.25% fixed rate on the first and $4.9% fixed on the 2nd. Had it been worth another 10k the last time I tried to refinance I could have included both together at a 4.25% 30 year fixed. Like most people though, I'm paying on a house that isn't worth what I paid 6 years ago. Such is life. Damn daycare is almost as much as the mortgage :-(
You can turn the rotors but it's only a band-aid. They will warp again and it'll come back sooner the second time.
Mine warped at about 20K as well. The dealer turned my rotors for free and when I explained that it was a half-assed practice to turn warped rotors, they promised to replace the rotors if the shimmy came back (which it did.)
When they turned the rotors, they over-torqued my lugs (over 200lbs)
When I brought the car back for rotor replacement 3 weeks ago (at 35K) , they over-torqued the 2 bolts holding on the calipers.
Friggen hacks and their impact guns.

Whoever turns the rotor should measure the width left on the rotor and tell you if turning is worthwhile or even recommended. The rotors have a minimum width specified by Nissan that the shop can measure and report to you. I can't find it right now since I'm still at work. I don't see too much problem with turning if you have a lot of meat left on the disc. My 2 cents.
We were planning on buying a summer home either at the beach or one of the lakes within 3 hours of our home. I sold all 4 Britax carseats and saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Less than two months after selling the carseats the wife was pregnant again :-) 6 weeks ago I had the "procedure" and life couldn't be better. In another 4 years we will be daycare free!
