Need new tires on 07 G35x

The right front tire went flat on my '07 G35x sedan this morning and I figure I might as well buy new rubber all the way around. There are about 26k mis. on the car and I've pretty much burnt up the factory Goodyear RSA 225/55/R17s (rims are stock).

Doesn't snow much here in central VA and when it does I drive my truck so I'm not worried too much about winter capability. I only have about 15 mons left on the lease but want good performing tires that will last at least 18k mis. or so. I want good traction and handling but not a tire that will be overly noisy or cause a rough ride.

I don't have a strong allegiance to any particular brand and I can probably get most anything somewhere around town, or else order them. In the past I have I bought Michelin for other vehicles I've owned, mostly just because of their reputation. Can't say I've ever been disappointed with them though.

Anyway, I don't know much about tires so any opinions and recommendations are appreciated. I could always replace then with another set of RSAs but wanted to get some feedback before I buy.

Thanks - JR

I don't mean this as an insult, so please don't take it that way... anyone who replaces their tires and buys another set of RSA's needs to have their head examined.
You may have had fairly good luck with them if you are a calm driver, but those tires suck!
They're cornering is lousy and once it gets cold out, they're like driving on wet hockey pucks. You can choose almost anything else and see improvement.

I can't recommend a tire unless I know your style of driving. Also, do you see any snow at all where you are? I mean, are these tires a year round tire for you? If so, how cold do your winters get?
If it stays fairly warm and you see no snow, I'd point you toward a high performance summer tire. Otherwise, a performance summer tire would do you just fine.

Tirerack lists all tires that fit your wheels and also include owner opinions. That would also be a good place to start.

Just don't buy the RSA's!

lol, not insulted at all, just ignorant and don't know any different. The RSAs obviously came on the car so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. Yeah she's never felt sure-footed on hard corners and of course the X is heavier in the front end anyway.

I guess my style of driving is fairly aggressive as my foot is either pressing the gas pedal or the brake, and most of my miles are stop-and-go around town driving. I don't race or anything like that, but I cooked the RSAs in 26k mis if that is any indication of my driving habits.

Doesn't snow much here though it gets a down in the 20s fairly often in Dec-Feb. This is the kind of place where a half-inch of snow will paralize the whole town and no one has a clue how to drive in the snow. I have a 4x4 scratch and dent pickup I drive during these times. But what about a better performing A/S just to be safe?

What do you think of these:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (found these on closeout for $136 each)
Goodyear Eagle GTs ( local guy has these for $135 each, but only around $115 online)

Feel free to throw out some brands & I appreciate your help.

Tire Rack

4 225/55ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - $544.00, $585.20 shipped. At least that's what my receipt says. Seems a little too good to be true given what other merchants are selling them for, but I guess I'll see what the UPS man brings.

You can definitely go with the Eagle GTs - they are much better than stock RS-As, are asymmertric (do a great job in wet weather) and I have been very happy with them (especially paying $560 for the set, including install). They worked well in light to medium snow, and are great in the dry. They are a bit noisy, but no more so than stock RS-As when RS-As were new and have much better theradwear rating. Now I have 6K on GTs and could not be happier. One of the reviews on Tire Rack is mine. I got them on Tire Rack and Goodyear even set me a $20 rebate. The tires are rather low profile and look great with stock 17s. They also have an extended sidewall end which protects the sidewall in the event of curb rash when parallel parking (guilty!). While Pilot Sport A/S is a marginally better tire IMHO it is not worth the premium when they went for $180 a tire: HOWEVER if you found A/S for $136 a tire then go with Pilots - that's I would do.

Thanks dohturdima but I went ahead & ordered the Pilots for $585 shipped. Seemed like too good of a deal to pass up & after installation will only be a little more than if I had bought the Eagle GTs locally.

I did mention that I would also go with Pilot A/S at this price - congrats on a great deal

++1 on Tire Rack. Ordered on Friday, Pilots came today by UPS, and just got the call that the shop has finished mounting them.

Been a while since I fell into a real sweet deal on something so feel pretty good.

i am also looking for tires for my 07 x. im thinkin bout going with a smaller sidewall. thinking about either 2255017 or 2254517. im just worried that it may make the rim and tire as a whole look stupid small. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It probably will. If you want smaller sidewall consider getting larger rims (18s or 19s) but that would also increase the wheelgap.
