question about brake calipers

I am looking into going with a bigger aftermarket brake caliper. If i do, does that mean i have to replace the rotors and all and go with one of those pricey kits? Is there any way to just put a bigger caliper on the stock rotors. Sorry im kinda a noob and im trying to learn lol.

I have talked to Racing Brake (they are a forum sponsor on here) about this and they are planning to offer their 6 piston front calipers as a direct replacement for the factory Akebono calipers. This would allow you to upgrade the calipers & pads while still using the rest of the factory components. Brembo also offers a similar caliper upgrade for the factory Akebono brakes... you can get these from Amplified Motorsports, who is a sponsor over on MyG37. Otherwise, most big brake upgrades require you purchase the whole kit.

I'f I had to leave something stock, I'd replace the rotors and pads before I changed the calipers.
The stock rotors are not very good and there are a lot of better options, like Racing Brake as mentioned above.
Also be sure your wheels will clear your new calipers. You running the stock 17's?... they won't clear a 6-piston caliper in the front.

This is my hurdle right now. I have a 17" winter setup that I'm very happy with but they'd never clear the acks.
For that reason, I'm on hold until I decide to bump up the size of my winter setup. My summer wheels wouldn't be a problem (19's)

The Brembos are already available and Racing Brake will make their available if their is interested, so you may want to contct them and see what they say.

However, as others have already said, you would be better served by upgrading your rotors and pads and leaving the calipers stock, especially if you already have the Akebono set-up... There's really no reason to replace those calipers unless you are doing some serious track work with yor G.

...or you want not only the performance upgrade the entire kit has to offer you, but the look as well.

2GoRNot2G - The dealer just replaced my front rotors, pads, and shield, free of charge. However, you mentioned Brembo has a rotor set for our cars..stand alone? I know that have a huge BBK I was looking into, but the rotors for now might be an option. Where?

^ RacingBrake is the one with the new lightweight 2-pc rotors for our cars... As far as I know, Brembo only offers the 6-piston calipers for the front of our cars right now.

The new RacingBrake rotors are bada$$. They have aluminum hats, so they shave off about 11 lbs per corner of unspring weight! Here's the preorder thread for them... the preorder is closed, but Rick at Riverside Infiniti picked up the last 3 sets, so you should be able to get a good deal on them from him. Let him know that Adrian sent you.
