On my way in to work this morning I had to brake hard when the line of cars in front of me stopped short. Rather than the normal quick stop I usually get from my G the response was sluggish and I actually tapped the bumper of the car in front of me (no damage to either car at all). But now it appears that my brakes may have locked up (car will not accellerate normally and brake lights remain on). I tried pumping the brake pedal a few times and setting and releasing the emergency brake to see if the brakes would reset, but no luck).

Obviously, I don't want to drive it to the dealer like this. If the brakes are in fact still "on", I don't want to create excessive wear by driving. Any thoughts on how to correct this myself before calling a tow truck?

Note: It was unusually cold in Houston this morning (31 degrees F). I know a lot of you drive your G's in much colder weather than that, but I wonder if the cold weather may have been a factor.

It's definitely not cold weather though.

If response was "sluggish" then you probably have more of a problem than "being stuck"
Is the reservoir up to the full mark?
Any warning lights on?

 

Fluid level seems fine, and no warning lights came on. I just put the car on a flatbed (thanks to Infiniti Roadside Assistance), and it is on it's way to the dealer for what I hope with be a warranty repair (car has less than 15K miles). I'll report back when I know more.

Cold weather, braked hard, then the brakes got stuck. same scenario...

 

Thanks drifter. Interesting to know that it has happened before (not just me). I searched but could not find the thread you mentioned. If anyone can recall how it worked out for the other G driver, please let me know.

I will also post what I learn once I hear back from the dealer.

 

same exact thing happened to me last year!

I had my car towed to the dealer where they found the brake sensor had stuck. My car was thinking the brakes were on and it wouldnt let me accelerate.

 

That would be you then... lol

 

Just spoke with the dealer and found it was the same brake sensor issue. Brake peddle had to be reset to spec height and problem was resolved.

I am having this exact same issue... Hard braking was involved but the issue has been completely sporadic for about six months, causing me to never get it fixed. I just, yesterday, noticed that the brake lights were on when the peddle was not depressed however the brakes were functioning perfectly normally otherwise.

Upon further inspection I realized that if I manually pull the brake pedal forward using my non driving foot (not too far, just enough so that it's off of the "resting" position), the car can once again accelerate and the problem remedies itself until I tap the brakes again. I am wondering if there are calibration screws or anything I can do to set the brake pedal default position without bringing it into a dealer.

The car is out of warranty by a thousand miles and I would like to avoid some stealership service charge.

 

I should also mention that I brought it to the dealer with this exact issue and they basically said, "Sorry, we have no idea what's going on." This was about three months ago.

 

^^^Did they document your visit? If they did and thats where you bought your car.. they might honor the warranty, although i would not hold my breath on it.
