Braking to a stop

Hi Guys,

I'm having a slight problem with braking on my 2007 G35x. When I come to a stop, slightly pressing on the brake pedal, the car seems to be "pulsing" as if downshifting and is VERY noticeable (as the driver anyway)...but I ask my passengers...they say they don't notice anything... I can also "feel" the road as I put my foot on the brake pedal... Is this normal? This only occurs when I'm slowly braking from lets say... 20-30mph down to a full stop. If I press hard on the brake...it is smooth... Maybe its the ABS? It really feels like the ABS is noticeably pressing the brake pads against my front rotors every 2 seconds...

When I drive other cars...mom's camry or dad's honda pilot.. their braking is smooth...no matter what speed I brake from.

Anyone ever experience this on their G's or any car for that matter?

I have 39k miles. I think I only had rear brakes done when i bought it begining of last year. You think the brake rotors need resurfacing? The brakes are still really strong. I only have to tap it lightly for it to start "stopping" the car...

It could be normal braking response - I drove my father's 2007 Accord and the braking is definitely not as "abrupt" as the G's. Just in case, I would check the brake fluid level (especially if there is more pedal travel than before). If there are vibrations in the steering wheel when you are braking from 60 to 0, would also check whether the front/rear rotors are smooth (they may need to be turned) as well as wear on the pads. Stock rotors are known to warp prematurely.

The stock rotors are not very impressive. You are most likely feeling the result of slight rotor runout. A quick turning will correct it but expect it to come back again. As mentioned above, these rotors are VERY well know for premature warpage.

I've put 90K on cars and never needed to do a thing to the rotors. This car, I'm on my second set of rotors. My first set was turned (under warranty) at 15K. They were replaced at 30K and were warped again at 45K.
I've been dealing with them like this since then and I'm now looking toward Racing Brake as an alternative to OEM.

+1 to what others have said, just bring it to the dealer. I went in for routine maintenance and brought it up to the service adviser. Now I just need to call in and make an appointment to have them resurfaced.

I see.. thanks for the response guys! I will have the dealer take a look at it soon. On top of this (might be related...), last night I was driving along a nicely paved road (in the pouring rain) and I started to hear something like something was warped on the front wheels... I knew it wasn't the road because it was freshly paved and new... it was a slight sound but as the driver, it was very noticeable... I even asked my GF and she said she heard it too. The sound is similar to a warped spinning wheel...like "wup ...wup...wup...wup" ... and no, the tire was not flat... lol. mannn..i hate having car problems :/

You might have a little rock stock between the rockshield and rotor. Get a flash light and look at behind the rotors to se if there is any rock or road debris.

Go to Infinitihelp.com, register and download a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) ITB09-037a - Brake Judder. Print and bring a copy to your dealership. Somehow, I have a feeling it may have a lot to do with your problem.

OMG...that is exactly what i am experiencing... braking at low speeds to a stop and the braking is NOT smooth. It "judders"... Does this TSB thing get covered under warranty or something? or does it work similar to a recall of some sort? I am going to bring this in to the dealer asap. Thanks !

The "wup ...wup...wup...wup" you are describing could be cupped tires or a failing wheel bearing (i doubt it since the car has relatively low mileage).

If it's a judder-related issue then it should be covered under warranty (everything that is described in the TSB).

Thanks for the responses guys. You've all been a great help. I am going to bring this TSB to the dealer sometime this week and see what they say. Much appreciated for the info!
