My Rotors - replace or turn/resurface? (Pics)
#16
Mine need to be cut at 34k miles as I have the brake judder, and I don't want to drive the 200 miles to the dealer for the tsb.
I removed the rotors yesterday and brought them down to kragen. They looked in their book and told me that they aren't serviceable. I told asked them if there was any other place that would turn them for me and was told that everybody has the same book and these rotores can't be turned.
I called nissan this morning and they reminded me that there was a tsb for brake judder, and the service instructions are to laser cut the rotors while on the vehicle. Nissan wants $190 to do this.
I'm at a loss as to what I should do!! I step on the brake while coming off of hwy speed and the steering wheel shakes.

Sorry to threadjack.. but.. since everyone is talking about the same subject, i figured i shouldnt make a new thread..
I purchased my 07 G35 with ~28000 Miles. they resurfaced the rotors during the certification process. I have some major brake judder @ ~42000 miles. Should i still be covered under the TSB or should i expect to pay for this out of pocket?

The backing plate is a splash guard, which originally was too small to protect the rotors from splashes. My understanding of the problem is that the warpage results not necessarily from rotors being made from s***ty material, not dispersing the heat properly and causing material pad transfer. The problem is probably that they cool too quickly in the surface area not covered by the brake caliper itself (which the larger splash guard is supposed to prevent). Because it cools unevenly and quickly, that is more than likely what causes it to warp.

I had my rotors turned yesterday at midas. I took them off the car which was a 15 minute job and even less time to put them back on.
Car brakes like new again.
My inf dealer didn't know of any tsb when I asked about it. I got a call later in the week stating that he had found the bulletin and was going to order all the parts. I can schedule an appt once everything is in.
I guess I'll tell them to install the updated parts, but to skip turning the rotors.

I would go much further than that at the dealer. If they didn't know about the TSB, they are lying, lazy or just incompetent. It's a well know TSB. They do have to eval the rotors to determine turning or replacement, but if you DEMAND replacement, you'll get it.
Remember, these rotors were/are not great to begin with, so turning them is a temporary solution (10,000 miles or so before they warp again). Also, the fact Midas turned them OFF the car is not good (should be using an on-car lathe). Demand new rotors.
Also, front pads are so easy to change, if you don't get new via the TSB, you can buy and change to what you want. Myself and one other Gdriver I know both got new rotors without too much of a fight and our brake judder was minor (they just left the pads and I replaced with Centric Ceramic Posi-Quiets to match my rears).

p/n are listed in the TSB. Go to infinitihelp.com and download tsb ITB09-037a. The splash shields have a slightly different part number for 1/2/4 piston calipers and are front only. I will need to look into this myself when I swap out rotors and pads as I do have some mild judder.
