I will be replacing my terrible stock RS-As shortly(I have just over 18,000 miles and they are going bad quickly!) and wanted to see what the recommendations are for those of us with the non-sport 17 inch wheels. I know it calls for 225/55R17 tires but has anyone done or heard of someone putting 235/55R17? It seems like there are a few more/better choices for the 235 variant.
you can go 235, if you wish. But 225 is the safest route to go.

I'm also in the market for new shoes going from the GY RS-A's at 34k miles. I'm considering going to a 245/50-17, in which case I could get the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. If I stay stock, I'll most likely go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. The diameter of the 245 is just a hair smaller than the stock 225, but I wonder what the extra width will do on the stock rims. Hmmmm.

235 would be max on a 7.5 width wheel. but even that's pushing it.

i've had 3 sets of sumitomos in the past (1 set on my 92 galant vr-4 and 2 on my integra gsr) and always been very happy with them. so i'm gonna go with the 225/55R17 Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 on my 07 x sedan. $93/ea at tirerack. i'll let you guys know how they are.

The information I found during my tire search shows that tire manufacturers publish a range of acceptable wheel widths for each tire they produce. Continental rates this 245/50-17 from 7" to 8.5" wheel widths. Because I’m a bit paranoid, I also contacted both Tire Rack and Discount Tire to verify that I was not misinterpreting these specs. Both informed me that this tire, on a 7.5" rim, is within the manufacturers' specified range of 7”-8.5” and is not a safety issue.
Now, will it perform as well as a narrower tire, i.e., introduce more sidewall flex? That remains to be seen.

Ended up having the dealership put on Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105...long name I know. They were pretty reasonable as far as price and came recommended even over two more expensive options (yoko and mich). I dont have enough miles on them to give a great review but already the road noise and harshness seem far less than that of the RS-A. The service rep said that the hankooks are taking off as far as popularity and he has seen these particular tires cover alot of miles (420 A A).

funny I called local tire shops prior to posting, cause I was interested in going wider tires as well.. and they all told me 225-235 is the widest for a 7.5 wheel.
well thanks for the info. After doing some more research 245 can work.
