Anyone replaced shock absorbers yet? (Stock)
Anyone replaced shock absorbers yet? (Stock)
I have 08 g35x with 38000miles on it
I know it's too soon to think about replacing shocks
(I'm going to stick with stock ones),
but since I've noticed a noticeable level of difference while driving 09 g37 with only 3000 miles on it (from dealer), I thought about replacing shocks.
I had the dealer's g37 for about a week, driving the same path I usually go through.
Minor cracks on the road I could feel on my g35x was not noticeable on g37 at all!!
I bought mine as used so I didn't really have a comparison, but if it is how original shocks should feel, I'd replace mine with new ones.
I do feel every little bumps and cracks on the road with mine...
I mean.. I'm into smooth and quiet drive (but fast) so it kinda is a big deal for me I suppose.
If changing shocks is too much, is there any suggestion improving the smoothness?
Maybe lubing suspension area?

Your car is fine...You do realize a g35x is going to sit a lot different than a g37....My car has a 175k miles and I am just now replacing the struts and shocks. The only thing I can suggest is bigger or nicer tires...Depending on what you have on your car..
well
correct me if i'm wrong.. but I don't understand how 09 g37x would sit so much differently than 08 g35x.. (both sedan)
because I thought both 08 and 09 sedans use exactly same suspension system.
Tire wise... well I have toyo on mine, and I think the dealer one had michelens on them.
and both had exact wheel and tire size.
From other thread, I've noticed shocks wear out gradually, not all of sudden.
So I thought maybe my shocks are pretty worn out (not completely dead) since the road around here is really bad.

At 3000 miles, the dealer's car's struts aren't even worn in yet! Your struts should be fine, but when it comes time to replacing them, if you want a little more performance, you might want to look into other options like Tokico D-Specs. They're cheaper than factory equipment, and better too.
Tires make a lot of difference in ride quality, brand, age, and especially air pressure. Check your tire pressures and try lowering them a bit if they are overinflated or on the higher end of normal. The difference between 32 PSI and 40 PSI is very noticable to me. You definitely don't want to under-inflate them or set off the TPMS. As others have said, it's doubful your shocks are causing the difference you describe.
I don't think I've ever read of anyone replacing failed shocks on the V36, even on lowered ones. However there have been a few that have upgraded.

Anyway, your shocks should be fine. If your concerned then have them checked.
Will not guess, but given that the OP is driving an X would assume he/she live north of Mason/Dixon line. Dealers in the Northeast generally use G37x as their dealers' vehicles. Assuming this, the ridedifference has more to do with difference in the tires' age/wear and pressures (i.e. dealer's are newer and possibly slightly overinflated) rather than there being anything wrong with shocks. I had a similar experience when driving a dealer's G37x when my car went in for service, but then replaced my worn tires, raised the pressure a few PSI beyond recommended 33 on each corner and my G35x ride equaled the dealer's G37x.

thanks guys, I will go ahead and set the pressure as 33 and see if it gets any better. I've recently got alignment service + new tires so I don't know exact pressure on them.
and for the location dohturdima has mentioned, I'm in Chicago area

If I remember correctly, the only real shock options for us right now is still OEM and if memory serves me right, they weren't cheap.
If and when I need to do this, I'll most likely invest a little more and go the way of coils.

The 2010 G37 journey/rwd loaner had a much softer suspension than my 2008 journey/rwd.
Not sure about the 2009, but the 2010 journey is much cushier. Little things change every year.
