weird noises after spring install! help!
Well I just had 1st gen sedan tein h techs installed on my 2nd gen g35x sedan. For the first couple of days everything was fine and the car drove perfectly fine. Then I started hearing creaking and very faint thumping noises from the suspension. The noises have increased over the past few days and I took the car to the spring installer and he double-checked everything. Has anybody had similar issues? Anybody have issues with using 1st gen springs on a 2nd gen sedan? Car is not being driven until I can figure out what it is....so any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Just some guesses here...
- Springs may not have been seated well
- The strut assembly may not be facing in the direction it should be facing (especially the strut plates)
- It may not be the springs, but your sway bar bushings (need regreasing)

yeah i think soundmike has the right ideas. you need to get under there and check the swaybar endlinks, bushing and that the springs are in fact seated properly. if you're not comfortable grab a friend to help. you're mainly looking for loose stuff.
to me the creaking is the springs, so im wondering if you have a bad spring in there. did the installer take the car for a ride or just look? maybe they should listen to it.

I took it back to the installer to double-check everything. He said everything was fine and installed correctly. I took it to my alignment guy and he checked the endlinks of the sways and everything and said nothing was loose so he doesn't know what the problem is....I'm thinking maybe these springs aren't compatible with the 2nd gen? Is that a possibility???
I had this problem before on my old car, it was because the springs were not seated right. Everytime i hit a bump my springs moved and would squeek. The springs may be too short for the strut. Simply jack the car up and move the spring around making sure its seating correctly, then slowlying lower the car while making sure its still seated correctly.( maybe need a helper) You will only be able to do this if the springs are too short for the strut. If the springs dont move freely when the car is jacked up, i suggest you inspect closely to see if the springs are seated correctly.
^thanks for the help. The springs are seated properly but I believe they may be too short for the struts...putting the stock springs back on (what an awesome drop that will be!) and then waiting for the cks coils (hopefully they don't cost a fortune)
