Wheel sizes and offsets question

I have been through the G35 database (word file) a hundred time but am still a bit confused. My car is 08 G35 Journey.

Here's my situation:
* I am looking for some used Volk or Work wheels (current top choice: SF Winning)
* Planing to drop my car with coils
* Don't want any rubbing
* Don't want to roll fenders, use spacers

What wheel sizes and offsets will work for me?

well wheels size and offset depend on eachother, so the offset for a 8 inch wide wheel wont be ideal for the same wheel in 10 inch. you need to decide on what size wheel you need and we can help you more with the offset based on the fact that you dont want rubbing, fender rolling, or spacers.

I see a lot of people here running 19x8.5, 19x9.5. Is this the way to go?

Again, I don't want rub, rolled fenders, stretched tires..

you can run a 19x10 and probably not rub or have to roll fenders considering you run enough negative camber and enough positive offset.

thats what im getting at, theres not a one size fits all, sooo many variables its hard to pin point.

first, do you want 19's?....or 18's or 20's? thats the first step in deciding wheel width.

I'm going to hijack your thread for a second and just ask about a certain size. 20x8.5 and 20x10 +28 all around. Will it work without a lot of negative camber? Currently not dropped but going with coilovers.

i believe you're still going to need a camber kit, how much is a lot to you? -1.5, -2, -3. i know people who are perfectly fine with -2, yet -1.5 is the max in spec range. 20x10 +28 on coilovers will def. need camber kits, same with the front. the rear actually has some factory adjustment but its not much.

put it this way, if your getting coilovers you minus will get camber kits because the 2 go hand in hand....UNLESS you're buying coilovers for JUST handling and not to lower your ride more than springs would. Rule of thumb is, 1 inch drop of less and no camber kit needed, more than 1 inch drop and you better start saving for one of two things, camber kit or new tires.

btw, unless your not so sure about how all this works. if you get coils, then the lower you go the more negative camber you will run, so a set camber position can only change if ride height changes.

As the other members said there are so many variables you need to consider and they all go hand in hand. Once you decide how much you would like to lower our car and the wheel width everyone here can help you out with offset and camber settings.

For reference, I am lowered on Tein H-Tech springs from the 1st gen sedan which give ~1.4" drop in the front and ~0.7" drop in the rear (although mine seems to be lower than that in the rear). My wheel sizes and offsets are 20x9 +20 and 20x10 +30 with front and rear camber at -1.7/-1.3 respectively. I have absolutely zero rubbing; think about what size wheels, how low, how much camber you are willing to run and then we can all help you out.

Just my $0.02

Thanks everyone! I'm starting to narrow down my choices. I want to go with at least 19s, but 20s are still an option as well.

Quick question: do tires on 20s wear down any quicker then 19s? Are they more expensive?

19's are known for being expensive, however with a 20 inch wheel you will have a smaller sidewall which means less tire which means less tire life. so its a bit of a tradeoff. personally id go with 19's but thats just my opinion, im not a huge fan of 20's on this car.

The very first 'Sticky' talks about all of this already. Even shows you who has what. Best bet is to just look there. Find a wheel you like, then see what the off sets are.

^^^great advice, i always forget that the majority of wheel makers do not offer custom offsets and some do at a price so you have to settle for their standard offsets.

I'm on eibach pro kit springs, 19x8" 30 offset on front, 19x9.5" 40 offset on rear, fits perfect, never any rubbing.
If you go with 19x8.5" on front, you may want to go with a 35 offset.
