solution to poor tire availability on S

Is there any reason we couldn't just go up one size in width in front and back? there are 55 choices for 235/50/18 on Tire rack but only 12 for 225/50.

I am thinking of my next set going 235/50/18 front and 255/45/18 rear....thoughts?

You don't have to run oem sizes. You can run whatever you want.

^ yep, but you need to keep it as close to OEM size as possible. For the Speedo and VDC/ABS bits to work.

+1.

Specifically, the front and back diameters can't differ by too much. You could just get new rims and go all the way...245 front and 275 rear.

^if you're running 245/35 in the front, 285/30 in the rear is actually closer in diameter/circumference to the front compared to 275/30 but it's not ran as commonly. Reason I chose 285 is cause I have an X so I wanted the specs to be as close to each other as possible.

i'm going to be doing this for next summer. probably gonna try the continental extreme contact dw. and i have a separate set of winter tires for the winter. the conti's are cheap, and their tires are always among the lightest in weight, which i think is often overlooked. plus, the 235/50 and 255/45 sizing will give you a SLIGHTLY smoother ride because of more rubber, will close your wheel well gap SLIGHTLY, and it will give you a little more grip because you'll have more tread on the street. probably won't be noticeable though.

If your going for a wider size tire, then you should go with 235/45/18 and 255/40/18. It is +10 and -5, which means if you go up from 225 to 235, then your sidewall should go down by 5.
