Bridgestone Potenza 960 AS
Bridgestone Potenza 960 AS
Hi,
I have been researching for all-season tires for my 2007 G35S. I am hoping to pull the plug on the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS. Tirerack reviews all seem good(rated at 8.3). Any one here have any experience or comments on these set of tires?
The other options are:
Yokohoma Avid Envigor ( no rating on Tirerack). (about $100 cheaper than Bridgestone for set of 4)
Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum (about $200 cheaper for set of 4). Tirerack rating at 7.9
Additionally, my current tires are at around 2mm thread depth for the centre groves. THe others are around 3-4 mm. Is that a good time to replace the tires (given the amount of rain that will soon be upon us)?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks.

There are lots of tire threads. Just search for them. The tires you mentioned are all pretty good though.
Tires with 2mm (2.5/32") are below safty wear and should be replaced IMO.
Tires with 4mm (4.5/32") are ok but are on their last legs.
If you change the tires with 2mm you might as well do all 4.

It depends on your driving style. Do you just drive your car, don't drive aggressive and take it easy on the corners? If yes, then those tires are for you.
If not, look elsewhere b/c the sidewalls flex like a rubber band. I can't wait for mine to wear out so I can replace them.
They stick like glue in dry and wet weather. If bridgestone made the sidewalls stiffer, those tires would all that I'd buy.
I've been tempted to size up and get the micheling pilot sport A/S tires since I had those on my last g and loved them.

I dont drive very aggressively on my commute, but when I am out in some winding roads, I do push it. I currently am running the GoodYear Eagle F1 A/S and was pretty happy with them. These should be comparable, right? Any downsides to getting the Kumho v/s Bridgestone (since they are $200 lesser)?
