Wheel load ratings.
While searching for lightweight 18s, i came across several online posts about wheel load ratings and how some manufacturers are rating their wheels for less than optimal weights, some as low as 1200lbs, before it succumbs to stress, fractures or cracks.
For a 6MT, GVWR, as spec'd by the government, is at 4,658 lbs. which roughly equates to 1,164 lbs. of weight on each corner.
With fairly aggressive driving, a single wheel can easily experience load that will go over its rating.
Granted, for the most part, how many of us drive to the limits with the car fully loaded?
But for the sake of discussion, is a wheel rated at such a low amount a cause for concern?
Thanks
