I've been having a problem of my brakes squealing like a little piggy every time I would be reversing and pressing the brake at the same time.

So I took a look at my pads today and wanted some general feedback on wether it needs changing, to me the pads still seem to have plenty of life in them, but the squealing is killing me, any suggestions?

 

Looks like you got a few mm's left. I ran mine on my tc till i had like 3mm's. Started squeaking but make sure you replace em soon. Take it to a shop and have them tell you exactly though. Doubt they'd charge you

 

I gotta say that looks like lots of life left on those to me. IDK what's causing the squealing, maybe clean them up and try relubing the shims or something.

 

They appear to have plenty of life left. Are those original or replacements? The first thing to try is to put something between the brake pads and the backing plate. Usually new pads come with a little packet of blue stuff. Anti-sieze works too. It just has to be able to handle high temperatures.

 

They look like there is plenty of life. Are those OE or AM pads? Does it do it while braking going forward or just reverse?


Things you can try:

Take em out and clean them up
Clean up your calipers
Lube them and re-install

 

Plenty of life on those pads. Just get some anti-squeal high temp grease from the store along with brake cleaner. Just work the grease on the backing and where it touches the pistons. Get the pins cleaned up and lube them up as well.

 

Mine are brand new and squeal a little bit when they're hot while stopping in reverse. Btw, those pads have plenty of life left.

 

Are those the same akebono's off the 37's? If so, the squeal in reverse is notorious, and for as long as i had my 37 (3 yrs?) I dont recall there being a warranty fix that would address it completely. Try googling it, you'll find dozens of threads on it.

 

FOr now clean and relube the pads like many said and then next time just get some ceramic pads in the future which are much less prone to squealing and brake dust

My rear brakes (non-sport) started squealing in cold temps. They are about the same width as yours. I cleaned the pads/shims and lubed it all before putting everything back together using brake lube. No more squealing.

 

No they're not original pads, they're Hawk HPS (Ferro-carbon pads) whatever that means,

and the front rotors are the 2-piece Racing Brake rotors.

Any recommendations on some good anti-squeal high temp grease?

Well they're the Akebono's so I think yeah it's the same as the G37's


Anyway thanks for the feedback guys, I'll try and clean it up and see if it helps, two more questions:

1- Any recommendations on good grease to use?

2- Is brake cleaner ok if it's sprayed on my painted calipers? (I'm guessing it's ok)
