Mini-review: Motive Power Bleeder

I've had one of those hand-pump bleeder kits which works FWIW, but it always felt cumbersome. I upgraded to the Motive Power Bleeder (Part 0107 IIRC) and must say that it's the easiest one-man approach to bleeding your brakes.

There are absolutely no leaks, which is likely due to the very snug custom Nissan/Infiniti cover that this particular kit includes (the universal kit with the brackets, which looks like this, is supposedly more prone to leaks on Nissans and is rather cumbersome to install).

If i had to nitpick, the only downside is you end up with a bit more fluid waste. Then again, once you open a bottle it's really not recommended that you re-use it anyway.

The process is fairly easy:
- Disconnect negative battery terminal
- Suck up all the old fluid from the reservoir
- Fill with fresh fluid then attached Motive cap
- Fill the bleeder with approx. 2qts of fresh fluid and tighten cover
- Pump to 15psi (it takes quite a few pumps though)
- Bleed away.

Were it not for the slightly higher $50+ price tag, i think it's a good piece of equipment to have in your ever growing garage. If you offer to bleed a friend or relative's Nissan/Infiniti for a few bucks, it'll pay for itself, too.

Granted, nothing beats the manual two-person approach, but when all you have are your own two hands, this approach is a pretty fast and easy one.

Nice review.

I've thought about one of these MANY times, it can be a royal PITA rounding up a helper when you need them.

One concern I have is; how do you keep things contaminant free when it's sitting on the shelf between bleeds.

I made my own power bleeder and yes, getting it to seal is A BIG problem. Good to know they came out with a Nissan specific one.

Only problem I had is the low pressure 15psi isn't nearly as much as pressing the pedal. So you end up opening the bleeder and sorta waiting around because the rate the fluid comes out is sorta slow.

Thanks guys.

Ian, last time i asked my wife to help she looked scared. I just have the kit sitting on the floor covered by towels at the moment. I'm sure it'll fit in one of those oversized gallon ziplocks, too.

Jeff, i thought 15psi was the maximum recommended for these types of bleeders on a Nissan? True, the fluid flows much slower than the "spurt" one would normally get from the pedal method, but it works for me. The pump goes up to 20 or 25psi IIRC.

mishmosh, some stores label it as a "Ford three prong" while others do so as "Nissan/Infiniti". I'll double-check later but it should be kit part #0107. I got mine from Summit Racing.

15psi is probably the max for the equipment but normal pedal pressure is much more.

If the cap doesn't leak, I think it's a nice way to bleed. But you have to make sure you don't run the fluid dry. Then you have to start all over.

That one seems to have the adaptor for ford only, try
THIS THIS
one it says it fits Nissan in the description BUT email them first to make sure as iv seen a couple ppl get the wrong adapters even though they said it fits.

Best thing is to get it from the vendor on myG37 at a good price and 100% fitment.

GREAT IDEA!
I WILL get it from a vendor.
That way I can get 100% confirmation that I will get the right adapter.
Thank you for the idea!

From what i understand from the FSM, that's to prevent the ABS actuators from activating. I've done it both ways and haven't really noticed anything, then again i've bled the system 3x a year the past couple of years (2 cans at a time).
