Currently I have 225/55R17 installed on there from the previous owner.

I have a spare set of Hankook 215/45R17.

Can I use them without problems?
Will there be more/less wear and tear?

Since it's AWD, it's important that all (4) wheels be almost identical in circumference so in that regard, you're technically okay. Your speedo will be off quite a bit though. At actual 60 mph, your speedo will say 55; at 70, it will say 64; and so on.

Personally, I wouldn't put narrower tires on. Also, the lower profile will make the ride less comfortable.

Its fine for a week or two around town. However at highway speed you will have engine screaming at high RPM....I guess 4000 as opposed to 3000RPM
