DIY: Grille Removal
i followed this DIY for the grille install and ran into a HUGE mistake. compounded by the fact that i was changing my oil at the same time. basically- i had to tow my car out to a shop to get my car running again
. HUGE lesson learned- heres my post in the Tech forum-

Thanks for posting this up. I'm about to install the midnight black grille on my 09 G37x sedan. I have one question. The instructions say you need a clip remover tool but it seems that you used a flat head screwdriver instead. Is there a risk of breaking the clips using the flat head screwdriver instead of the clip remover tool?

The midnight black grill installation instructions has a clip remover in the list of tools needed to install the grill. If you search on ebay or google you'll see what it looks like.
you dont need a clip remover. a small flat head will pop those plastic clips off in 2 seconds. i was able to install w/ a screwdriver and socket wrench. JUST REMEMBER WHERE THE LONG BOLTS AND SHORT BOLTS GO!
thanks for this.. i'm thinking about switching my grill up so i tried to remove it last night just to see if i could do it.. mind you i am NOT a DIY'er or a handyman whatsoever
i got all the bolts out.. but i'm stuck at the part where you have to lift the plastic piece up.. it felt like i was going to break it if i lifted it up any higher.. i even heard a couple of loud cracks and just stopped after that
any suggestions? i was too spooked.. didn't want to break anything

^ Don't lift it too high before popping the clips out along the front edge.
Just lift enough to reach in and push them out.
I flipped the pic from the OP, maybe it makes more sense this way.

I tackled this project last night. I was going to do flat black but after seeing the gloss, I decided to go that route.
The instructions provided were FANTASTIC. Only glitch was that, I too, had 10mm bolts holding on the grill instead of 8mm. Other than easy cheesy.
I think it turned out great, but I later saw that I must have put my finger in the paint when putting it back on. One small fingerprint. I may redo this just to make it right.
