Tried two different clear coats.

This one is working better than the first one I tried which was an enamel.
Designed for Aluminum so no activator is required. $6 at autozone.

just did it. looks awesome!!! beats the hell out of paying 120 bucks for a new one. i used steel wool from the harware store. not the course but the second up from the most fine. i think its called fine. i wish i would have bought the one up from that bc it says on the back of the package that the one up from the one i bought is for refinishing aluminum or any metal surface
i got great results following this advice except i didnt go with clearcoat at all. after i removed the scratched clearcoat, i simply buffed it with mothers mag&aluminum polish to get a mirror shine. clearcoat often dulls polished aluminum surfaces so i didnt bother with it. i can rebuff it once a year no problem.
i just dont understand how people scratch this **** or any other **** unless you have long fingernails hehe.

It is not going to work on mine since it is deeply scratched into the plastic layer. I don't think there is an easy way to fix it. I just place my hand on it all the time and hoping all the left over aluminum paint will go away so I will have a solid white plastic ****. lol
is there a reason why i cant see his pics? i really need to do this DIY. thanks btw for the info! for whatever reason the pics aren't up anymore F*K'em. I did and it looks ALOT better. I used a 1000 grit sand paper and wet sanded it. Be Very Carful of the Leather, I didn't on a very little part. and polished it up with a mother's aluminum polish 2x. Now I'm applying clearcoats! probably 3 or 4. Thank you very much!
