DIY: Replacing your battery
#32
Awesome DIY soundmike, I bought a Costco battery and did it today. Simple as hell... only bitch part was the weather stripping.
Which leads me to this question... can I screw up the installation of weather stripping and make the water leak into the car by any chance? Didn't exactly seem water tight to begin with...I put it together best as I could with some space between windshield and the strip.

Thanks for this DIY! After all these years, it's still valuable.
The dealership tested my battery last week when i was in for brakes and said it needed to be replaced...for $180.
I bought my own at advance auto parts w/ coupon, but they wouldn't install it b/c it's too complicated.
Used this DIY and did it myself no problem. Thanks for putting it together. It certainly wouldn't have been obvious without the steps posted.

Well, the frigid weather knocked my battery out and boy was I glad to come across this!
1. Made the job a snap, which was greatly appreciated in -20C weather.
2. Picked up the battery at Costco, I would have not thought of it. Saved money and I can attest to one poster's comments about no hassle return/warranty (had a flat, tire shredded, they replaced it).
For some reason, all presets are still there :-)
Thanks!!!!

I'm glad it's helped y'all.
Yeah, can't have enough gold dust around here. Makes my car feel special that way. It's typically an even layer to look nice, but my hands can't keep... err... my hands off of 'em, which explains the hand marks.
How you manage to have the original battery cranking that long escapes me.

So my '08 G35X, still on OEM battery as of January 31, 2015, failed a test during an oil change, so I'm off to buy a new battery. Likely will go Costco as well.
Glad to have found this thread - will change as soon as I have the battery.
Thanks for the DIY!
Also found out my rack and pinion steering is leaking...that's not likely to be a DIY job for me...

+1 for Costco, been a member over a year but forget they carry stuff like this.
Got an Interstate battery at Costco for $85 with 42 month free replacement (but no prorating after that).. Autozone wanted $129 for their gold brand with 3 year free replacement and pro-rated to 5 years.
The Interstate book lists the 2008 G35 as a different size than the 2007, but I knew better and got the 2007 battery according to their book (size match and more cranking amps).
BTW... got my last battery at dealer after original failed at about 50% pro-rate, but since Nissan battery failed at 4 years 8 months would have paid 75% of cost (despite 84 month "warranty"). Glad I'm DIY this time.

I am a bit confused
Have a 2007 Infiniti g35x Sedan.
I see most saying a size 35 battery. But then sometimes I see a size 24 battery. Do they both fit in the 2007 Sedan? Does it make a difference if it's a g35x or just plain g35?
I see that some people are saying they put the size 24 in and it worked, but just had to be reversed? And then others saying it must be the 35?
If it's possible and anyone can give me a more definitive and specific answer, regarding the battery and battery size for the 2007 Infiniti g35X SEDAN, it would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to sell the car, so I was hoping to just get the cheapest possible battery to install JUST to sell the car. Unless installing a working battery is not even worth it if you are trying to sell it. But i figured people buying would want to turn the car on, meaning I would need a new battery.
Please, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
