so what's involved in cleaning the pop charger filter? or would you just buy a new one (or two in our case)? Sorry for my ignorance, i'm just getting into all this mod nonsense =)

K&N filters also tend to let quite a bit of added dirt into the intake manifold. You can't have your cake and eat it too. More air flow means more dirt. Some filters are better than others, but the K&N's do let in more dirt and they definately give extremely minimal gains. You won't see any improved mileage. I've had intakes on my vehicles over the last 10 years and I've kept every single gas receipt for each vehicle. The only benefit is the lifelong filter. I however found that cleaning them is a pain in the butt and not worth the effort when the stock filters are so cheap.
