Anyone else notice this....

When I am in D (not DS) and I use the paddles to up shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd...when the car shifts into 3rd...it is a much harder shift. almost as if it is slamming into gear. the car does not do this in DS or in D when the paddles are not being used to shift gears (true automatic transmission mode)

i asked this guy ---> he seems not to notice it! ha ha ha

but seriously...my car is doing this. Anyone else notice this in theirs?

Yes, this is pretty common - you should feel it most when you're past 1/2 throttle, but pretty sure it happens other times too. The consensus seems to be that the G shifts hard a) because you don't choose optimal shift points with the paddles, and b) under heavy acceleration the tranny behavior changes (as it should).

Anyway, shouldn't be an issue. And if it is, 4-year warranty (or is powertrain five?)

 

I have the same exact issue. I have been wanting to take it in to check, but havent had the time. I dont think that it should shift that hard, but ive never had a foreign car before my G, and want to believe in the Infiniti reliability. Also, the warranty puts my mind at ease, on top of the fact that i have a 5 star dealer that will put me in an M, or FX for any loaner time if i ask. I say, drive it how you want, if it breaks, worry then. we have roadside assistance anyway, dont we>?

I have an '08 and have the same exact issue. I think it is pretty common.

 

My 07 X does the same thing when I am manually shifting and just a little bit while I'm in DS mode and not at all when it's in D. I find shifting when the RPM's get a little higher (at about 4000) seems to get rid of it or at least make it less noticeable.

 

I'm starting to feel this now just started today (11K+). Hard shift from 2nd to 3rd. This is NOT normal. On the way down, it seems to not rev match from 3rd to 2nd. It will not decelerate smoothly through those two gears as it did before.

I seem to have gotten rid of this problem.

I don't know how, it rarely happens now.

I notice my car only shifts hard when I'm driving somewhat fast, ie. more than 1/2 throttle. Otherwise, the shifts are smooth and lazy.

Personally, I prefer the harder shifts when driving fast. It means the transmission is shifting quicker and the torque converter is not sapping up a bunch of power with slow/lazy shifts. That was one thing that convinced me to get the AT over the MT.

 

I have an 08 X and the 3rd gear shift is firm, as you described.

 

It happens to my car and all the loaners I have had. To not have the kick, you must be on gas (not back off) when you are shifting into 3rd. If you are on gas in 2nd then back of gas and shift into 3rd that thing kicks very strong. There should be a new upgrade software to fix this issue. Infinity are you listening?

Actually, it still does it if you have your foot on the pedal.

That's how I've always driven my car.


If you accelerate slowly, you can take it past 3k, wait a second and shift. Then it'll be pretty smooth. If you try to shift too fast, the gears will bang.
If having 42k miles on my car taught me anything, it's that. It's hard for me to get a really strong bang/jerk now... when I do get the jerk, it's just a very small one. 3 out of 10 on the jerkiness level.

 

I agreed with you. i have 08 G35X and i notice that from 2nd gear to 3rd you need to loose your feet from the gas alittle and then shift to 3rd gear.That will be smoother.
