Decided - My exhaust project.
Decided - My exhaust project.
Going to try and save a little cash and see if I can make a nice exhaust for the car.
From the cat pipe back, I'll coue out with 2 1/4" tubing into a Magnaflow 14385 dual in/dual out muffler that has X-pipe internals, polished to go in place of the resonator. From there, follow back to the stock muffler positions with 2 1/4" tubing into 2 Magnaflow 14829 mufflers. These mufflers are pictured below. I got all three for just at $400 and talked to my shop and we'll be putting it all in for roughly $150.
I was thinking about stepping up after the dual in/out res to 2.5" and then 2.5" back but was afraid the step would be a potential drone point. My other concern is the mufflers with tips already attached; I hope 1) the tips are are long enough to reach where they should and 2) the fact there's not a lot of space between the tip and the muffler isn't a problem. I want to do High Flow Cats but am going to wait and see how this sounds before I make it any louder. We shall see.

Sounds like you have a good starting point ... I had all those components on my car the first time around. It was a little loud for my taste but but not at all loud to many of the younger guys that have heard it.
There are some comparison clips here:

thanks man, if you weren't able to notice, i stole some of the design cues off your original system. i've listened and studied your youtube vids. if it comes out anywhere near the sound of your car, then I'll be pleased; although I am hoping it won't be all that loud. if it is, then I'll have to make some small changes.... but I'll get it.

The real R&D comes with the mufflers. And Magnaflow has a great history with mufflers.
There's no "magic" to the piping. Minimal bends and the right size piping.

unless someone's willing to buy/take 3 or 4 of the top systems and do a same day back to back to back comparison to prove otherwise, then I'm not going to spend 3 or 4 times more than necessary. this isn't my first time doing exhaust work, I have of experience with these types of projects and I'm more than confident that i/we can build a system that perfroms just as good. sound is the main concern and can easily be tuned out. the FI prototype used pretty much the same mufflers so sound should be comparable to that.

You don't actually BELIEVE the numbers that manufacturers claim for aftermarket parts, do you?
If you do, I added up the claims for HP gains for bolt on parts only for my last car (02 Trans Am). According to the claims, I could have about a 500hp bolt on only car! (160hp over stock).
Reality was closer to 50hp over stock with all bolt ons.
There's only so much power you can "uncork" with bolt ons. Start with an open intake, and open headers...... then subtract as you add piping, filters, mufflers, etc.
